Sports Festival: 40 Schools to Participate in Faith Academy Kaduna Mini Sports Festival<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Faith Academy Kaduna Maiden Sports Festival scheduled for June 22 would be hosting not less than 40 schools across the state.<\/p>\n

The Chairman of the Faith Academy Sports Committee, Nden Emmanuel disclosed this to newsmen in a press conference held at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Nden who spoke on behalf of the Main Organising Committee (MOC), said that the sporting event organized by the school is a way of giving back to the society and is being organized \u00a0in collaboration with the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), Kaduna State chapter\u00a0 and the\u00a0 Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.<\/p>\n

The MOC with representatives from stakeholders who are already on ground he explained are to kick start preparation for the mini sports festival for secondary schools in Kaduna State.<\/p>\n

Sports he emphasized, is a vital tool for development of young people. The sports<\/p>\n

Committee of Faith Academy he informed was set up on March 29 and without much delay swung into the planning of this event.<\/p>\n

The two-day sporting event would take place Friday 22 and Saturday 23 June 2018 and will feature track and field events, racket games and board games.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have started putting logistics in place. We want to introduce board games like Scrabble and chess, as well as racket and it games too.<\/p>\n

We hope to invite 40 schools in Kaduna from private and public schools. The festival will also serve as\u00a0a talent hunt for the state. We have started putting logistics in place\u201d. He said.<\/p>\n

The notion by some people that sports make children dull he described as unacceptable. \u00a0Emmanuel explained that sports enhances the memory of children and has a lot of benefits.
\nIt also teaches them how to be bold in whatever they do as well as enhances responsibility.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to key into the benefits, not just for the schools, but for the state.\u00a0 It is sponsored by the school and it has given its support, we are ready to go. \u201d He added.<\/p>\n

The Principal of Faith Academy Kaduna, represented by the school\u2019s Sports Facilitator, Coach Felix Oseibe\u00a0while fielding questions from newsmen said that the school\u00a0 has programmes targeted at all round development of students.<\/p>\n

In order to keep the the developed talents in shape, the government he said would need to put some measures in place to ensure that their efforts does not go in vain. Government would need to come up with laudable programmes to sustain sports development in the state. He stressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring holidays, the government should assemble athletes and groom them. The ministry and state should also be providing transport subsidy and training kits to athletes. There should be a running programme. There should be games master\u2019s refresher courses,\u201d he suggested.<\/p>\n

He explained that in his personal capacity, he has a scheme that caters for students talented in sports, courtesy of Coach Felix Academics and Sports Foundation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have kids leaving secondary school, through our foundation, we guide them. Tertiary institutions in Kaduna State should open up and admit students that our foundation is grooming.
\nUniversity of Ilorin, Uniport are admitting our athletes. ABU and other institutions too should do it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, the Zonal Coordinator North West, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Olushola Luke, represented by Abdullahi Idris said that at the zonal level, based on mandate of Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, they\u00a0keep tab on talents discovered.<\/p>\n

Also, the Director School Sports Kaduna State, Abel Yakubu said that the state government has plans to host a similar competition. Arrangements he said are on-going.<\/p>\n

\u201dWe have such programmes on ground with the Sports Ministry. Ours is for a week which is expected to hold July or August. The public schools will feature, but not many of them. We have over 500 public schools and Faith Academy cannot accommodate all of them.<\/p>\n

While commending the initiative of Faith Academy, the Director Sports Kaduna State, represented by Coach Samaila Usman had assured government readiness to key into any group\u2019s programme directed towards the development of sports in the state.<\/p>\n

Present also at the briefing was the Kaduna State YSFON Secretary, Alhaji Abdulrazak Usman.<\/p>\n
