Governor of Kebbi State, Abubakar Bagudu, was, on Wednesday, led by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum on a tour of 3,000-hectare rice farm in Damasak, headquarters of Mobbar Local Government Area.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The mega farm is one of Zulum\u2019s ongoing programmes in Agriculture.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The farm\u2019s location, Damasak, is on the fringes of lake chad and it was one of Boko Haram\u2019s strongholds before it was liberated by the Nigerian Military.<\/div>\n

During the tour, Governor Bagudu addressed farmers, explaining purpose of his visit.<\/div>\n

\u201cLet me say how honoured I am to be standing here in Damasak to support my brother. When he told us the big story, I asked him, \u2018can you take me along with you (to Damasak)?\u2019 We always celebrate him (Zulum) and appreciate what he is doing for Borno State and the entire Nigeria. His doggedness and courage are why I joined him in coming to see this (farm in Damasak), among other efforts that he is doing in returning normalcy to Borno State and indeed normalcy to Nigeria\u201d, Bagudu said.<\/div>\n

Still addressing farmers, Governor Bagudu said he had met with Mr President, “I told him about Borno\u2019s rice farm which he noted. Mr President was so happy with the news\u201d.<\/div>\n

\u2026 Zulum speaks<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
In his response, Governor Zulum explained that over 30,000 hectares have so far been cultivated across the state.<\/div>\n

He cited the reactivation of irrigation farming programmes around lake Alau, Baga, Nguro Soye in Bama and some liberated communities across the local government areas.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Zulum said the activation of irrigation activities have increased Borno\u2019s local sourcing of vegetables rather than having to bring from other parts of the country.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The two governors returned to Maiduguri from where Bagudu departed.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The governors traveled to Damasak alongside former Minister of Agriculture Hon. Abubakar Tijjani, who played a key role in some of Borno\u2019s agricultural programmes. There were the Zulum\u2019s special adviser on agriculture, Ali Audu, and a director of irrigation, Mohammed Shettima.<\/div>\n

The trip also included the member representing Mobbar at the State Assembly,\u00a0 Usman Lawan Moruma, and three former commissioners: Trade and Commerce, Yarima Lawan Kareto, Agriculture, Engr Bukar Talba, and Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr Mustapha Mallambe, and the Executive Secretary, Borno State Tsangaya Board, Ali Kaka Gashigar.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
