Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN), in its bid to step up the uptake of COVID-19 vaccine has distributed\u00a0 protective equipment (PPE) to health facilities in six LGAs of Kaduna state.<\/div>\n

The medical items given to these\u00a0 facilities working for the fight against COVID-19 are meant to be distributed to members of the communities to use against infection.<\/div>\n

Northwest Regional Coordinator, Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN), Elizabeth Joe disclosed this while shedding light on their activities at the handing over exercise in Kaduna.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“We are here to distribute personal protective equipment (PPE) to facilities that are working\u00a0 for the fight against COVID-19.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“We (PPFN) are working in the facilities.<\/div>\n
We give out our medical items to these facilities who will then distribute them to the locals to use so as not to get infected by the virus.<\/div>\n
There are 25 facilities in Kaduna state.”<\/div>\n

According to her,<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“This exercise covers Kaduna, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Kano. The exercise had already taken place in Kano, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and now Kaduna.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
In response to their assessment of the earlier distribution exercise conducted in Kano and Federal Capital Territory, (FCT Abuja),\u00a0 they are happy with the result of the exercise. She said.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“When we got to the states we distributed these commodities, we realized that they are utilizing them well.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“These are medical items, among which are, face masks, soap, towels and other things for the community.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“This activity is under the Accelerating Equitable Access, Acceptance and Uptake of Covid-19 vaccine (Access) and it is being funded by the MacArthur Foundation.<\/div>\n

We work together with PATHFINDER International. She added.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Deputy Director, Social Mobilization, Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board, Saminu Salisu Kaya, receiving the Personal Protective Equipment on behalf of the Ministry commended PPFN for their good work.<\/div>\n

The intervention of PPFN he said has improved the uptake of COVID-19 in the state. Before then, the compliance had not been impressive\u00a0 Kaduna he said used to be number 12th position but now rated 4th in the country.<\/div>\n

“They have supported and move the state to the next level. The state was for the last 6months 12th in the whole country but now we are topping number four, we are among the first 10 states in the federation with COVID-19 uptake.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I want to say some six months back, Mac Arthur Foundation has taken it upon themselves that they want to support this state and see how best they can use the available resources to accelerate COVID-19 uptake in the states.<\/div>\n

“There are series of activities that took place with the\u00a0 support of PPFN in the state. They have trained our health workers on uptake of COVID-19 vaccine as well as how to go about mobilizing people to realize the importance of taking the vaccine.<\/div>\n

Six LG areas benefitting from the exercise are, Igabi, Kaduna South, Zaria, Sabon-gari Kachia and Makarfi.<\/div>\n

Kaya while appreciating the donors on behalf of the board assured them of judicious use of the items.<\/div>\n
