Transportation and other economic and social activities in Kano State have received a boost from Kano State Government as Gov Abdullahi Umar Ganduje formally launched 100 ultra modern buses and 50 taxis, Sunday.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The launch of the vehicles was held at Pillars Stadium in Kano as part of an initiative conceived to add tonic to the resolve of Ganduje\u2019s administration of transforming Kano to a mega city, considering its cosmopolitan nature and\u00a0 blossoming\u00a0 population.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The vehicles would be handled by private operators for efficiency.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n
Governor Ganduje said his administration had invested huge resources in the mega city transformation process in line\u00a0 with\u00a0 what is obtained in the global\u00a0 sphere, adding that with the introduction\u00a0 of the befitting\u00a0 mass transit system\u00a0 passengers\u00a0 roaming the nooks and crannies of Kano would be greatly assisted in reaching their respective destinations.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we are launching today is a clear testimony to our determination to ensure the functionality of our mass transit system. What we want from the operators of these modern commercial vehicles is judicious management for them to understand that they were provided with the means of livelihood. We are calling on wealthy individuals to come and invest in the transportation sector for peoples\u2019 predicament to be cushioned.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the launching of these vehicles, we are hoping to add more in the year 2023 annual budget. We are gradually phasing out the proliferation of tricycles within the nooks and crannies of Kano. The tricycles would be restricted to operate within the vicinity of\u00a0 \u00a0the main roads. Our quest for transforming Kano\u00a0 could only be realistic when a functional transportation system is institutionalised.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the committee for the launching, Alhaji Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, described the initiative as a good omen for people battling with transportation hiccups and that the committee had carefully\u00a0 examined the areas to be taken into cognizance for the system to be effective and result oriented.<\/p>\n
