As the 3rd<\/sup> edition of Nimrod North West Holiday Volleyball Clinic came to a close on Wednesday at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kaduna, air of excitements filled the air as over 120 students participants and sports fans trooped out to have a final glimpse of the high spirited players display their skills to the admiration of the gathering before the final whistle of the closing ceremony.<\/p>\n

The participants both boys and girls,\u00a0aged between\u00a00 to 18 were drawn from five states in North West geo-political zone of the country. Namely, Kaduna,\u00a0Katsina, \u00a0Zamfara, \u00a0Sokoto and Kano state respectively.<\/p>\n

The President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, (NVBF) and Zonal Representative on the board, Engineer Musa Nimrod while fielding questions from newsmen after the closing ceremony expressed joy and satisfaction on the successful hosting of the event.<\/p>\n

Engr. Nimrod, the sponsor of the clinic said,<\/p>\n

\u201cI am really very happy because from the record we have over 130 children who participated and over 15 facilitators\u00a0under the coordination of our national coach Abdallah. I am really very excited.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe joy I feel today seeing children of 4yrs, 5yrs coming out means there is something great in this country that we are missing and l want to say that Nigeria as a country, we really need to tap our potentials.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was privileged to attend the House of Reps. National Summit on Sports and it was all on grass root development. I believe this is what we are talking about\u201d. He said.<\/p>\n

While he called for private sector\u2019s participation as a means of taking sports to a greater height, he emphasized on the need to catch them young in order to groom them for better performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to request that next year, private sectors are invited to come and also participate because these are little children. We should try to impact on their lives. This is what l believe in.<\/p>\n

\u201cLife should not just be about amassing wealth and building houses, No! What have you planted in them?<\/p>\n

We need to impact on the little ones so that when we become\u00a0old and can barely\u00a0walk, they would be the ones to support us. That is the passion l have. \u00a0I have passion for the Grass root. It is what l believe in\u201d.\u00a0 He added.<\/p>\n

The Engineer expressed optimism\u00a0for something bigger in the next edition.<\/p>\n

\u201d\u00a0I look forward to greater participation next year\u00a0with over 200 \u00a0in attendance,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Speaking,\u00a0the Zonal Coordinator North West,\u00a0Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports\u00a0Development, \u00a0Mr. \u00a0Olusola Luke said that from the interest generated,\u00a0they expect the kids to take the stories to their homes so that next year, the clinic would attract a larger crowd.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now some of these kids are in academies where they are being groomed. \u00a0We have coaches here to study them and they would improve,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He\u00a0called on other Zonal Representatives to emulate Engineer\u00a0Nimrod for all round sports\u00a0development.<\/p>\n

Olusola expressed hope that the next edition would attract support from corporate organizations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have made contacts and expecting\u00a0to reach out to corporate organizations\u00a0to partner us for next editio. \u201d He added.<\/p>\n

Speaking on how the kids were nurtured, Assistant Coordinator of the clinic, Coach Suleiman Hassan said the children were exposed to the rudiments of the game the outcome which he described as encouraging.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u00a0started from teaching them \u00a0\u00a0service down to overhead pass. \u00a0Once that\u2019s done you go to attack and defense.<\/p>\n

Hassan is of the hope that coaches of various states would take the campaign to schools.<\/p>\n

\u201cCoaches from schools are here. We have them from different\u00a0states in the North West. \u00a0Our coaches from the states will take the campaign there\u201d.<\/p>\n

As to the future of volleyball game, he has this to say.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are creating more awareness. \u00a0I believe volleyball can overtake football in the future. This is because it doesn\u2019t\u00a0need much players or equipment. Volleyball\u00a0has been lagging behind because of lack of publicity,\u201d he submitted.<\/p>\n

El-selim Musa an SS 2 student from Amazing College Kano is 14years old. He anxiously looks forward to the next edition.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am grateful\u00a0for\u00a0this opportunity. \u00a0In the future,\u00a0most of\u00a0us would\u00a0become great players.<\/p>\n

We are hoping to come back next year. \u00a0We have shown what we can do and to our friends that are not here,\u00a0they should come and learn too.<\/p>\n

A ten years old female participant,\u00a0Faith Ismail,\u00a0from Essence International College Kaduna,\u00a0said they have learnt a lot.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe learnt a lot about volleyball. I learnt how to throw ball, I learnt how to bounce the ball and I am eagerly looking forward to telling my friends to come next year,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
