The Nigerian Communications Commission, (NCC) is driving initiatives for full commercial launch of Fifth Generation (5G) network in Nigeria.<\/div>\n

Already, spectrum licences for the companies that will rollout service have been issued.<\/div>\n

The Executive Vice Chairman\/Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Communications Commission, Prof. Umar Danbatta made this revalation during its special day celebration at the just concluded 44th Kaduna international trade fair held in Kaduna.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\n
Danbatta represented at the occasion\u00a0 informed that the deployment will start from the state capital and gradually extends to other areas across the state.<\/div>\n
The network has several advantages. He stated.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“It is important to state that the 5G network will bring substantial network improvements, including higher connection speed, mobility and capacity, as well as low-latency capabilities to communications services in Nigeria. I am happy to inform you that one of the licensees has kicked off commercial launch in Lagos.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\n
“More importantly, it is also our commitment, at NCC, to continue to provide a level-playing ground for operators to thrive, promote investment and delivery of innovative services to individual consumers, SMEs and big business owners by ensuring enhanced consumer quality of experience.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
Emphasizing,\u00a0 “the NCC will continue to drive the remarkable digital transformation we are witnessing in our economy today and one area that the Commission pays greater priority to is how our consumers are treated by the service providers. This is why at NCC, we continue to treat consumers as Kings and Queens of course, that is who they are because without the consumer, both the regulators and the service providers have no business being in business! “<\/div>\n

“It is my pleasure to restate the NCC\u2019s commitment to protecting and empowering consumers \u2013 whether individuals and corporate consumers – from unfair practices willingly or unwillingly orchestrated by the service providers.\u00a0 This is based on our regulatory mandate of ensuring that consumers of telecommunications services deserve to get value for their money, and to be treated right as very important stakeholders in the scheme of things.<\/div>\n

“The Commission will continue to focus on excellence and efficiency of our regulatory activities and ensure increased connectivity to telecoms consumer through deployment of robust infrastructure.<\/div>\n

The commission while appreciating KADCCIMA for their efforts described this year’s theme,”Promoting Value Addition to Economic Growth and Development” as apt.<\/div>\n

It said the telecommunications has been playing important role in the transformation of the nation’s economy by providing the digital impetus that is transforming the landscape of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise, big businesses as well as sustaining other socio-economic activities in recent time.<\/div>\n

“Partnering with KADCCIMA through our special \u201cNCC Day\u201d event has always been a pleasure for us at the Commission, as it usually provides a veritable platform for interaction with telecoms stakeholders, especially our esteemed telecoms consumers.<\/div>\n

“The telecommunications sector has been a strategic driver of the digital economy agenda of the Federal Government, as it continues to provide the needed digital stamina to support the economy, especially the activities of the SMEs across in Nigeria and beyond.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
Danbatta while describing Information Communications Technology (ICT)<\/div>\n
as one of the fastest growing industries directly creating millions of jobs said<\/div>\n
inline with the Digital Literacy and Skills Pillar of the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) 2020-2030, for a Digital Nigeria, the Commission in order to equip\u00a0 small-scale business owners with the necessary requisite skills embarked on digital literacy training for entrepreneurs across the six geopolitical zones of the country.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He noted that with the NCC\u2019s regulatory efforts in deepening access to digital services, Nigeria stands to benefit as it will make it competitive and comparable with other economies in the areas of job creation; contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth; emergence of new services and industries; workforce transformation; and business innovation.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u00a0“It is in our response to ensuring that Nigeria is competitive in all these areas that Commission continuously puts a number of regulatory measures in place to ensure seamless access by Nigerians to telecommunications services in order to deepen competitiveness of the Nigerian economy by making our SMEs digitally compliant.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“In Nigeria today, the number of active mobile subscriptions reached about 222,571 million at December 2022 and Teledensity of 116.60 per cent as at December 2022. Also, Internet subscribers have exceeded 154.8 million with broadband penetration standing at 47.36 per cent as at December, 2022. In this new environment, the competitiveness of Nigeria\u2019s SMEs, for instance, depends on their ability to leverage new technologies by acquiring the necessary digital skills to do business on an international scale.<\/div>\n

Speaking, the President, Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Industry (KADCCIMA) , Alhaji Suleiman Aliyu commended the NCC for their continuous partnership saying, the prevailing challenges in the country not withstanding, the chamber has remained committed to its cause.<\/p>\n

“Distinguish ladies and gentlemen, today, the chambers is part of the great challenges of the currency swap, fuel scarcity witch hunting the 44th edition of the trade fair.<\/div>\n

“It is a welcomed thing to say that this fair coincides with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the existence of the Kaduna chambers of commerce.<\/div>\n

The theme for the fair, “Promoting Value Addition to Economic Growth and Development” is intendem with the initiative of the federal government through the growth and development of small and medium scale enterprises.”<\/div>\n

Stressing further, the president explained that the theme for the fair was\u00a0 a dilebrate efforts to refocus attention on the critical economic game changer.<\/div>\n
