The Federal Government on Monday confirmed that the Egyptian government has finally opened its borders to allow fleeing Nigerians from war-ravaged Sudan to pass through its country.<\/p>\n

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the Nigerian government had made arrangements for buses to convey Nigerians from Sudan to Egypt due to the closure of airspace.<\/p>\n
\n
\n
\n
But the evacuees have been stranded at the Egyptian border for days due to the country\u2019s refusal to allow free passage despite several interventions by the Nigerian mission in Egypt.<\/p>\n
\n
\n
\n
The country insisted that everyone must follow it\u2019s normal visa protocol before crossing the border.<\/p>\n
\n
\n
On Monday, the chairman of the Nigeria in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in a statement, said the North African country agreed to open its border for Nigerians after the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari.<\/p>\n
\n
She said Mr Buhari spoke with his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, before reaching a truce.<\/p>\n
\n
The NIDCOM boss, however, said the Egyptian government agreed to open the border under stringent conditions.<\/p>\n
\n
\u201cThe border has just been opened, [with stringent conditions] after President Buhari\u2019s intervention with the Egyptian President. So, the processing of evacuees by the Nigerian Embassy in Egypt will begin,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
