The Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) has increased the school fees of new students into Federal Government Colleges.<\/p>\n

Any student in Nigeria wanting to go to any Federal Government College, known as Federal Unity College with this new policy will have to pay the sum of \u20a6100,000 as against former fees of N45, 000.<\/p>\n

This was contained in a communique from the Office of the Director of Senior Secondary Education Department of the Federal Ministry of Education.<\/p>\n

The circular addressed to all Principals of Federal Unity Colleges across the country, with reference number, ADF\/120\/DSSE\/I\u00a0 dated 25th May, 2023, signed by the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, reads thus:<\/p>\n

\u201cApproved fees\/ charges for Federal Unity Colleges (1st Term) for new students, new students are expected to part with \u20a6100,000 instead of the previous N45,000,\u201d the circular read in part.<\/div>\n

\u201cThe latest fees\/charge increment will affect virtually all aspects and activities of the school, including tuition and boarding fees, uniform, text books, deposit, exercise books, prospectus, caution fee, ID card, stationery, clubs and societies, sports, extra lesson, insurance, et al.<\/div>\n

\u201cPlease be informed that the ministry has approved only the underlisted fees and charges for all Unity Colleges”.<\/div>\n

It will be recalled that some parents under the aegis of Nigerian Parents Forum in June 2023, had appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene on the Federal Ministry of Education’s over 100% increment on fees by students.<\/p>\n

Such action the group stated, negates Tinubu’s promise of a renewed hope for Nigerian parents, therefore\u00a0 should be reversed. Not only that, it was ill- times as they were still trying to cope with the fuel subsidy removal.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that early July, 2023, the House of Rep. had called on the Federal Ministry of Education for a review and reversal of the fees.<\/p>\n
