Perpetrators of all manners of criminalities against them should be brought to book. It added .<\/p>\n

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by Executive Director, AMDF, Sekyen Dadik and Senior Programme Officer, Press and Human Rights<\/p>\n

“On this International Day to End Impunity Against Journalists, AMDF calls on all friends of democracy to stand in solidarity with journalists worldwide and work towards a future where journalism is respected, protected, and celebrated.<\/p>\n

\n
“Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF) celebrates all African journalists; heroes who lost their lives on the field, retired and those still at the frontlines as we mark the International Day to End Impunity Against Journalists.<\/p>\n

\n
“This is a remarkable day to highlight the critical role that journalists play in promoting transparency, accountability, and democracy in societies around the world. It is also a time to recognize the dangers and challenges journalists face in carrying out their work.<\/p>\n

\n
“All around the world, journalists often find themselves at the frontline; uncovering and reporting on corruption, human rights abuses, wars and several issues happening locally and globally. As the watchdog of society, they play a significant role in holding government, institutions, and individuals accountable for, giving voice to the voiceless and amplifying the call for justice, inclusion and development.<\/p>\n

“Today, AMDF acknowledges the great service journalists offer at all levels; knowing that this invaluable service comes at a great cost.<\/p>\n

\n
“African journalists face various forms of harassment, intimidation, and violence, including threats, physical attacks, and even murder. The culture of impunity that allows perpetrators go unpunished only serves to perpetuate a cycle of violence and silencing of the press.<\/p>\n

\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
“On this day, it is crucial to reaffirm our commitment to protecting journalists and ensuring they are able to carry out their work without fear of harm or harassment. Government, international organizations, and civil societies must work together to create an environment where press freedom is prioritized and prioritized regardless of the situation.<\/p>\n

\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
“We owe it to ourselves to strengthen legal frameworks that protect journalists, prosecute those who commit crimes against them, and ensure justice is served. We must prevent, pushback and commit to a culture of justice for all media organizations and journalists.<\/p>\n
Individually, we play a role by supporting and amplifying the voices of journalists, demanding accountability for attacks on the press, and advocating for press freedom in our own communities and beyond.<\/p>\n
