Founder Hassy\u2019s Haven Foundation, Husseina Mohammed Yakubu has\u00a0 unveiled her foundation’s activities admist cream of dignitaries, colleagues and well wishers who came from far and near to give their blessings.<\/p>\n

According to her, the foundation is meant to serve as a gentle tribute to the memory of her late twin\u00a0 sister,\u00a0 Hassana Muhammed Yakubu.<\/p>\n

The vibrant and easy going News Agency of Nigeria’s (NAN) reporter made this revelation during the official launch which took place in Kaduna over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Explaining further,<\/div>\n

“It is an initiative Inspired by my late twin sister, Hassana Yakubu, who valiantly battled cancer Nasopharyngeal Cancer) Nasopharynx (Throat) behind (Nas the nose for eight years, experiencing the struggles pains, and challenges associated with the disease.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“The foundation is established in her memory to support those facing similar battles, ensuring that their journey is met with compassion, support, and opportunities for growth.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Thus, looking to the future with a renewed sense of hope.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
“It signifies a comforting haven for orphans, less privileged girls, and widows. The initiative covers provision for welfare support for the less privileged female members of the society.” She added.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The foundation also aims to provide hope, resilience, and ensure that no one faces challenges alone.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
She noted that many Nigerians diagnosed with cancer face challenges accessing adequate treatment due to drug scarcity.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Hussaina called on government and well-to-do Nigerians to assist in fighting this course.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Findings she said have shown that the majority of the cancer patients in the country cannot afford the available treatment within and outside the country, because most of the cancer relief drugs and chemotherapy are far beyond their reach.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
\u201cWe are lending our voices to other Nigerians, while also calling on the federal and state government to declare a state of emergency on cancer in Nigeria. We saw the success recorded in HIV\/AIDS when it was made a top priority some decades ago.<\/div>\n

\u201cWe are calling on the governors of northwestern states of Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara, Jigawa, and Sokoto, to immediately come together and equip the secondary and tertiary hospitals in the zone with cancer treatment equipment to reduce the nightmare of travelling far distance for chemotherapy.\u201d<\/div>\n

Data released by the Foundation showed that cancer leads to over 72,000 deaths in Nigeria per annum, with males recording 30924 deaths, while females had reached 40 647 deaths.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
According to the National Cancer Control, \u201cthere are 102,000 new cases of\u00a0cancer every year with the estimated incidence for breast cancer at 27%, cervix uteri stands at 14%, liver at 12%, while prostate and colorectum are at 12% and 4.1% respectively.\u201d<\/div>\n

The vision and mission statement of the foundation is to reduce cancer mortality rate through increased awareness\"\"on preventive measures and management of cancer. It also try to enhance the quality of lives of people living with cancer through provision of empowerment and support. The founder stated.<\/div>\n
