NSCDC wins 2018 MIGA, Minister Instructs Donation of Competition Equipment to Surrounding Schools<\/strong><\/p>\n

The one week MIGA Games which kick-started on the 22nd<\/sup> November finally came to a close on Saturday the 1st<\/sup> day of December, 2018 leaving behind mixed memories. \u00a0The pleasant, and unpleasant ones.<\/p>\n

Noticed were some pockets of poor sportsmanship displayed during the event.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Interior, Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd) said that the MIGA game has become a brand and a major item on the biennial calendar of sports in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

Dambazau who disclosed this in his closing remark however had expressed displeasure over the conduct of some participants. \u00a0He said, \u201cThe objectives of the games were mostly achieved except for the pockets of reports of poor spirit of sportsmanship recorded in some venues, which does not portray the discipline that is expected in paramilitary service\u201d.<\/p>\n

Any athlete or official he warned found wanting, who does not conduct himself or herself maturely and desist from such act in the next edition shall be punished accordingly.<\/p>\n

The Minister while commending efforts put in by participants in making the event a success had directed that the competition equipment and balls used be donated to two primary and secondary schools located around the venues of the MIGA games.<\/p>\n

He said the recorded success would not have been possible without the support of Service Chiefs and the Kaduna State Government.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hereby direct the main organizing committee to donate the competition equipment to primary and secondary schools located around the environ of Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Murtala Muhammed Square.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, who came first in the 2nd edition had 96 medals, Nigerian Police Force<\/p>\n

came second with 87 medals, having the Nigerian Prisons Service on the third position with 41 medals<\/p>\n

The Federal Fire Service got 20 medals. Coming fifth is the Nigerian Immigration Service with 37 medals, while the Ministry of Interior who came last had 2 medals.<\/p>\n

According to our reporter on ground, \u00a0940 athletes competed in 91 events across 13 sports with a total of 90 gold, \u00a090 silver and 116 bronze medals won across the six participating services.<\/p>\n

Fielding questions from journalists, the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) Chairman, Alhaji Alhassan Yakmut said, the games have added some technical impetus to sustain the temple, talents and forms of the currents athletes they have.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is why two of the team sports, basketball and volleyball had over 15 of their players selected for inter- continental games coming up in 2019.\u00a0 So for us, this event is one of the sustainable activities that would keep our local athletes in top shape for any international competition\u201d. He assured.<\/p>\n
