Kano Governor Reinstates Sanusi Lamido as 16th Emir of Kano, Gives Letter of Appointment<\/p>\n

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State on Friday, 24th May, 2024 reappointed Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano.<\/p>\n

The event took place in Government House Kano.<\/p>\n

The governor while presenting the letter of re-appointment to the emir said, \u201cBy the powers conferred on me by the Kano Emirate Council Law of 1984 and 2024, and supported by the recommendation of the kingmakers, I have the singular pleasure of confirming the reappointment of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano and the head of the Kano Emirate Council”.<\/p>\n

The reappointment he explained was based on his competence, credibility and popularity.\u00a0 He urged the new Kano Emir to be guided by the principles of Islamic teachings. He stressed on the need for him to use his position to unite the emirate. “Fostering harmony among the Islamic sects in the state.\u201d<\/p>\n

The house of assembly Thursday, after<\/p>\n

dissolving all the five newly created emirate councils in the state \u2013 Kano, Bichi, Karaye, Gaya, Rano had passed the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024. This replaced the Kano State Emirates Council Law, 2019. Thus, the 2024 Bill paving way for the reinstatement of the emir.<\/p>\n

Governor Abba Yusuf said Sanusi was victimised and dethroned out of office. His reinstatement is good for the people of the state. He added.<\/div>\n

The reinstatement of the emir he added was a collective decision of the kingmakers, the heads of security and that of the speaker.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a series of meetings with the kingmakers yesterday, extensive discussions with the speaker, and we also sat with all the heads of security. At the end of the day, we all gathered in the chamber where I received the bill that repealed the former law, and we signed the new law repealing all the appointments.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the governor had given the five emirs of the five newly created emirate councils in the state a 48-hour ultimatum to vacate their official residences and palaces.<\/div>\n
