The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected the petition seeking the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.<\/p>\n
The rejection was on the ground that the petition has not met the constitutional requirements.<\/p>\n
The Independent National Electoral Commission disclosed this on Thursday afternoon in a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe petition for the recall of the Senator representing the Kogi Central Senatorial District has not met the requirement of Section 69(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended),\u201d INEC stated.<\/p>\n
However, INEC has yet to provide details on the specific shortfall.<\/p>\n
There had been controversies, allegations and counter allegations over the\u00a0 involvement of some political bigwigs, perpetrating some fraudulent acts.<\/p>\n
Recalled that a Federal High Court in Lokoja had earlier issued an interim injunction restraining INEC from acting on any recall petition against Akpoti-Uduaghan, citing allegations of fraudulent signatures.<\/p>\n
