Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna state has<\/p>\n

expressed his administration’s unwavering commitments to the development of the solid minerals sector.<\/p>\n

He made this commitment at the Nigerian Export Promotion Council’s (NEPC) strategic engagement on establishment of solid minerals clusters, aggregation centers and hubs for export competitiveness workshop held in Kaduna.<\/p>\n

The one day engagement workshop organized in collaboration with the Kaduna Mining Development Company (KMDC) at Assa Pyramid\u00a0 brought together miners, processors, exporters, investors, and regulatory bodies to strategize wayforward on mining related issues.<\/p>\n

Speaking through the Commissioner for business, innovation and technology, Mrs Patience Fakai, the governor assured his administration’s commitments to making the sector viable.<\/p>\n

Describing the event as timely, he\u00a0 commended the collaborative efforts of both the council and the Kaduna Mining Development Company (KMDC) towards strengthening the solid minerals sector.<\/p>\n

“Let me begin by commending the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and the Kaduna Mining Development Company for organizing this timely and critical engagement. Your efforts to bring together miners, processors, exporters, investors, and regulatory bodies underscore the collaborative spirit needed to unlock the vast potential of our solid minerals sector.<\/p>\n

“Kaduna State is richly endowed with solid minerals such as gold, tin, lithium, and gemstones. These resources, if harnessed strategically, can serve as a cornerstone for sustainable development, job creation, and export competitiveness. Today\u2019s event, with its focus on aggregation centers and hubs, aligns perfectly with our administration\u2019s agenda to transform Kaduna into a leading player in the solid minerals value chain.<\/p>\n

“Aggregation and clustering are not just buzzwords; they are proven strategies to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve market access. By establishing these centers, we can address fragmentation in the sector, ensure value addition, and position Kaduna as a reliable supplier of high-quality mineral products to global markets.<\/p>\n

“The Kaduna State Government is fully committed to creating an enabling environment for this sector to thrive. We have implemented policies to streamline licensing, improve infrastructure, and foster public-private partnerships. However, government alone cannot achieve these goals. We need the active participation of all stakeholders\u2014miners, investors, processors, and regulators\u2014to turn our mineral wealth into shared prosperity.<\/p>\n

Uba Sani charged both the international and local investors to remain focused and dedicated to their course<\/p>\n

“To our investors, both local and international: Kaduna State is open for business. We offer not only rich mineral deposits but also a stable, investor-friendly climate. To our miners and processors: we urge you to adopt modern techniques and sustainable practices that meet global standards. And to our regulatory bodies: we count on your support to ensure compliance and fairness in the sector.<\/p>\n

“I thank the NEPC and all partners for this laudable initiative. Let us work together to build a sector that benefits our people, strengthens our economy, and places Kaduna State on the global map of solid minerals excellence.<\/p>\n

To the participants.<\/p>\n

“I urge all participants to seize the opportunities this engagement presents. Let us move beyond discussions to actionable strategies that will drive Kaduna\u2019s solid minerals sector forward.<\/p>\n

His excellency, and the entire Kaduna state government the commissioner stressed, remain steadfast in supporting initiatives that promote economic diversification and inclusive growth.<\/p>\n

In her speech, the Executive Director\/ CEO, Nigerian Export Promotion Council Mrs. Nonye Ayeni acknowledging the abundant resources Nigeria is blessed with called for accelerated action in turning them into valuable use.<\/p>\n

Not only did she lament the under utilisation of the solid minerals sector but that it is faced with numerous challenges which has further brought about setback.<\/p>\n

“It is worthy of note that the state and the nation is blessed with immense potentials of the solid minerals. However, despite the potentials, the sector is faced with numerous challenges, including informal activities, lack of funding, inadequate mining technology, lack of quality and standards, insufficient geological data, capacity building, to mention a few.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“It is worth mentioning that the mandate of Nigerian Export Promotion Council is to promote the development and diversification of Nigeria’s export trade.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“The Council recognizes the contributions of the solid minerals sector to non-oil exports portfolio and the tremendous opportunities in achieving greater economic potentials through this intervention. I urge you all to take advantage of this event to tap gain insights and equip yourselves with the understanding of cluster processes to accelerate the growth of your businesses, which will translate to growth of the sector.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

On ways to accelerate progress, she encouraged processors on the need for value addition along the value chain through cluster mechanism.<\/p>\n

“It is worth mentioning that at 16″ National Council on Commerce, Trade and Investment held in Lagos on 19″-22” May, 2025, the Council has approved the inclusion of solid minerals as the One State-One-products of the states as well as approved the participation of Operators\/MDAS\/Agencies of Solid Minerals value chain in the State Committee on export promotion nationwide.<\/p>\n

Consequently, the Kaduna State Committee on Export Promotion is implored to implement the resolution for effective participation of the Ministries of Solid Minerals\/Agencies and so on.<\/p>\n

She enumerated some strategic priorities of Nigerian Export Promotion Council which are that of, Promoting Value Addition, Strengthening Export Capacity Building, Enhancing Market Access,\u00a0 Leveraging Technology and Innovation.<\/p>\n

“In promoting Value Addition and maximize the benefits of our exports, we must prioritize value addition across solid minerals value chain. This will not only increase export earnings but also create more jobs for Nigerians.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
“In strengthening export capacity building, we would intensify our efforts to equip Solid minerals exporters with the necessary skills, knowledge, and tools to succeed in international market.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“In enhancing market access, we will continue to facilitate access to new markets through participation in International Trade Fairs, Trade Missions, Solo Exhibitions, and bilateral agreements. Our focus will be on penetrating emerging markets while consolidating our presence in traditional markets.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
\u00a0Leveraging technology and innovation, in today’s digital age, technology is a game-changer. We must embrace digital tools and platforms to streamline export processes, enhance market intelligence, and connect Solid minerals exporters with global buyers.<\/div>\n

Throwing more light on the issue of illegal miners, she said.<\/div>\n

“We don’t normally address them as illegal. We call them informal sector. By the time we bring them together and educate them on what they are supposed gain by leaving that informal sector and formalise their trade, they are going to gain a lot. We are going to mentor them, train them. Most of the time they have the problem of financing. We are going to link them with bank of industry for assistance.<\/div>\n

The Managing Director, Kaduna Mining Development Company (KMDC), Engr. Shuabu Kabiru Bello in his goodwill message has described the engagement as very vital to the development of the solid minerals sector.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The opportunity to collectively address the problems and challenges facing the sector he sees as very apt.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
While noting that the collaboration and the formation of artisan miners into clusters will go a long way in sharpening their mindsets, there is the need to brainstorm and chart a wayforward for the advancement of the mining sector in states and\u00a0 beyond.<\/div>\n

“As we come together to engage in meaningful discussions about the solid minerals sector, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the NEPC for their<\/div>\n
unwavering commitment to promoting the potential of solid minerals export<\/div>\n
through clustering and aggregation.<\/div>\n

“Today\u2019s program is a vital platform for us to explore the myriad opportunities that lie within the solid minerals sector. It is a chance for us to collectively address the challenges we face and to chart a way forward that will foster growth and<\/div>\n
economic development in our beloved nation. The collaboration between NEPC<\/div>\n
and KMDC is crucial for the advancement of the mining sector in our state and<\/div>\n
beyond.<\/div>\n

Giving a brief on some of the activities of his company, the MD stated.<\/div>\n

“At KMDC, we recognize the immense potential that artisanal miners hold in<\/div>\n
contributing to the economy and the export market. We are actively engaged in the formalization of artisanal miners, working diligently to organize them into clusters for effective aggregation. This initiative not only enhances their productivity but also ensures that we can collect accurate data on both the miners and their outputs. By formalizing these operations, we are paving the way for better resource management, improved safety standards, and increased market access for these miners.<\/div>\n

“As we look to the future, I urge all stakeholders to join us in this clarion call for the formalization of artisanal miners. By doing so, we can unlock significant value addition opportunities that will not only benefit the miners themselves but also contribute to the overall development of the mining sector in Nigeria. Together, we can create a sustainable framework that supports growth, innovation, and economic resilience.<\/div>\n

Earlier in his welcome address, the state coordinator, Nigerian Export Promotion Council, Alhaji Kabiru Yusuf while explaining the importance of the one day workshop urged participants to take advantage of the opportunity provided to improve their lots.<\/div>\n

The workshop he stated, ”was meant to explore the immense potential of the solid minerals sector in order to drive economic growth and development in not only Kaduna state, but Nigeria at large.”<\/div>\n

Kaduna State he explained is endowed with vast solid mineral resources, with significant deposits spread across its 23 local government areas.<\/div>\n

Hence, the need for establishing solid mineral clusters and aggregation centers to boost the sector.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“The establishment of solid mineral clusters and aggregation centers is a strategic initiative aimed at unlocking the full potential of our mineral resources, creating jobs, and boosting the internally generated revenue (IGR) of Kaduna State.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Today\u2019s engagement provides us with a platform to deliberate on the opportunities and challenges associated with this initiative and to chart a course for its effective implementation.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u00a0“I am confident that today\u2019s discussions will yield valuable insights, foster meaningful collaboration, and contribute significantly to the sustainable development of the solid minerals sector in Kaduna State.<\/div>\n
