FOMWAN Assures Commitments to Partner Government, Others on Women and Children Development<\/p>\n

The Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria FOMWAN has assured it commitments to partner government, agencies and non governmental organisations in the drive to bringing positive change to the lives of women and children.<\/p>\n

This assurance was given at its just concluded national conference\/40th anniversary celebration held in Kaduna.<\/p>\n

FOMWAN she said remains committed to the cause and ready to partner institutions or bodies with same driving force.<\/p>\n

The theme of this year’s conference\/anniversary, “Empowering Muslim Women: Climate Resilience, Sustainability and Community Development”, she stressed is a testimony of the association’s commitments.<\/p>\n

“The choice of the theme of the Annual Conference: Empowering Muslim Women: Climate Resilience, Sustainability and Community Development is to demonstrate our active engagement with government and constituted bodies in all aspects of human development particularly in respect to women and children.<\/p>\n

Alhaja Lateefat encouraged that the mission on which FOMWAN is built be kept alive. FOMWAN aside strengthening its activities across and out side the country will pursue the spirit of oneness.<\/p>\n

‘Alhamdulillah, within 40 years of existence, FOMWAN has grown from a humble beginning in Minna to become a global movement with spread to a large area of the Muslim World.<\/p>\n

“Our mission in the next 40 years will, in sha Allah be to bring together all the branches into a formidable world body that will foster the Unity of the entire Ummah of Rasulu Llah (SAW)<\/p>\n

Speaking on the issue of climate change, she challenged that all hands be on deck while enjoining the women to use<\/p>\n

their God given endowment as mothers to chart a wayforward.<\/p>\n

“Climate change is real and its effect impacts us all in various ways such as strange weather patterns, desertification severe rain falls resulting in flooding, and extreme temperatures leading to wild fires among others.<\/p>\n

“The theme of this conference is therefore apt and presents an opportunity for us to pause, think and develop workable strategies at salvaging our planet.<\/p>\n

“We as women have significant roles to play within our areas of influence starting from the home. FOMWAN believes that impactful strategies that positively affect our environment will form some of our takeaways at this conference.<\/p>\n

“As Muslims, we must accept it as a divine duty not only to protect but to bequeath to coming generations a safe environment passed on to us by Allah through our fore bears.<\/p>\n

“Let us see this conference as firing our desire to join forces with our governments and other private initiatives to help rescue our environment from abuse and neglect.<\/p>\n

It was also a fora to remind all present the need to intensify efforts in curbing vices as well as promote education amongst the youth particularly that of the girls child.<\/p>\n

“Let us all redouble our efforts in the areas of education especially for the girl-child, drug abuse especially among our youth and financial empowerment of the needy. That is a sure path to freedom and self development.<\/p>\n

Suratul Araf chapter 7 verse 56 states: “Latu sidu fil ard, bada islahiha” – Work not confusion in the Earth after the fair ordering thereof.”<\/p>\n

A tree planting campaign was launched and climate change ambassadors inaugurated as a determination to salvaging the situation.<\/p>\n

Recounting some of the association’s achievements,<\/p>\n

“It is heartening to note that in the area of Managing Anti-Social Behaviour championed by the Ministry of Education. FOMWAN is already working on a robust Anti-Drug outreach programme with schools.<\/p>\n

“This initiative is designed at galvanising the potential advocacy skills, against the use of narcotics, by adolescent pupils.<\/p>\n

“The goal is to mobilise them into “Champions” against the use of narcotics and its numerous consequential anti-social behaviours, among their peers and in their families.<\/p>\n

At the end of the conference was a communique which calls to action the need for the muslim woman strengthening her participations in both the moral, educational and\u00a0 social -economic development of the nation.<\/p>\n

The annual national conference deliberated on the theme: Empowering Muslim Women in the Face of Climate Change\u00a0 \u2013 Building Resilience, Sustainability and Community Development While Showcasing FOMWAN’S Achievements.<\/p>\n

“The conference was declared open by the Vice President, His Excellency Sen. Kashim Shettima, GCON, ably represented by the Hon minister of state for education, Prof. Suwaibah Ahmed.<\/p>\n

In attendance were the Wife of the President, Sen. Oluremi Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ably represented by Hajia Fatima Tajudeen Abbas, wife of the Speaker, House of Representatives FRN.<\/p>\n

Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima represented by Dr Asabe Vilita Bashir, DG Nat women development centre.<\/p>\n

The Chief host of the international conference and Executive Governor of Kaduna State Sen Uba Sani, CON was ably represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza S. Balarabe.<\/p>\n

The Formal opening ceremony was chaired by the Hon Speaker, House of Representatives, RT. Hon Tajudeen Abbas, PhD, represented by Prof Abdul Jalal Abdullah Dan Baba.<\/p>\n

Other dignitaries at the occasion include His Eminence Sultan of Sokoto, Dr Sa’ad Abubakar, represented by His Royal Highness the Emir of Zazzau, Amb. Ahmad Nuhu Bamali.<\/p>\n

Sheikh Ahmad Mahmoud Gumi, Hon Bello El Rufai Muhammad were also present.<\/p>\n

The keynote address was presented by Prof Salisu Shehu, the executive secretary Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).<\/p>\n

This 40th anniversary\/ annual national Conference was attended by more than one thousand five hundred and fifty participants from 36 states of Nigeria, including FCT Abuja.<\/p>\n

The international sis organisations of FOMWA UK, FOMWAG, and FOMWA Niger Republic were also in attendance.<\/p>\n

The Deputy Secretary General, UN women, Hajia Amina Equally, delivered a Goodwill message virtually, congratulated and acknowledged the contribution of FOMWAN over the years on developmental issues and urged the Association to sustain the Tempo.<\/p>\n

She commended the choice of the Theme for the conference as a contemporary issue that requires inclusiveness.<\/p>\n

FOMWAN formally appreciated the Government and people of Kaduna State for the hospitality and Successful hosting of the Annual National conference.<\/p>\n

The conference observed the followings.<\/p>\n

That the conference theme: Empowering Muslim Women in Climate Resilience, Sustainability and Community Development, is timely and apt as climate change is no longer a distant threat. It is here with us, i.e. the flooded farmlands, drought-stricken communities, rising food prices and displaced families.<\/p>\n

That Islam attaches great importance to climate Mitigation as demonstrated in several verses of the Holy Quran ( Al-Baqara, Al-Inshirah, Al-Rum, Al-Lukman) that describe elements of climate change and mandate its Mitigation by Muslims.<\/p>\n

In Islam, men and women have shared needs. Women face unique risks from climate change due to physiology and social roles.<\/p>\n

FOMWAN laments the high rate of drug abuse tendency among youths, anti-social and moral bankruptcy and inadequate professional school counsellors. Therefore, the Association applauds the synergy recently created by the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to battle the drug scourge, especially in schools.<\/p>\n

The Association reiterated its commitment towards a drug-free environment through different strategies, which include creating vibrant school programs to bridge the vacuum created by inadequate professional school counsellors.<\/p>\n

FOMWAN identifies the sceptical acceptance of the effects of climate change and strange weather patterns, desertification, severe rainfall resulting in flooding and extreme temperatures.<\/p>\n

FOMWAN has survived 40 years in unity, despite all odds, due to the sincerity of purpose and dedication. Thus, appeal to all members at all levels to sustain it for impactful Growth and development.<\/p>\n

In it recommendations,<\/p>\n

FOMWAN is to empower Muslim women to be able to be resilient in the case of climate change and its Mitigation.<\/p>\n

FOMWAN should cultivate a movement of empowered Muslim women who advocate for climate change resilience and sustainability at the community and global levels.<\/p>\n

FOMWAN is\u00a0 to institute a tree planting project across communities and form Green Ambassadors Clubs in all FOMWAN Schools to ensure sustainability.<\/p>\n

FOMWAN is to promote initiatives towards alternative local energy sources in communities, through international conferences and collaborations\/ networking with other relevant organizations.<\/p>\n

FOMWAN is to advocate for effective engagement of youth on Positive usage of Social media as ECO ambassadors.<\/p>\n

In it call to action, the association<\/p>\n

calls on the government, stakeholders, and individuals to take immediate action to address the challenges of climate change, drug abuse, and insecurity in the country.<\/p>\n

FOMWAN reaffirms its commitment to empowering Muslim women, promoting community development, and advocating for climate change resilience and sustainability.<\/p>\n

Conference also reaffirms the organisations commitment to building communities where women and children can thrive. “We urge all stakeholders to join hands in addressing the challenges facing our nation and community”.<\/p>\n

There was a change in Leadership from Hajia Rafiah Idowu Sanni , as Dr Fadimatu Sumaye Hamza emerged as the new National Amirah to pilot affairs of the Association in the next renewable\u00a0 two years (2 yrs).<\/p>\n

Other executive members include, Hajia Zeenat Isiemekhan as vice president , PRO Hajia Hawau Abdullah, Da’wah Officer Khadijah Olahan, Asst Secretary\u00a0 Dr Halima Egberongbe among others.<\/p>\n
