ICPC Wins Case Against Retired Federal Officer Over Age Fraud and Illegal Salary Collection<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has successfully secured the conviction of Mr. Dare Adebowale Oladapo, a retired Deputy Director of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Kwara State, for manipulating his age to illegally prolong his service and continue receiving salaries after his legitimate retirement date.<\/p>\n

The judgement was delivered on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, by Honourable Justice Ibrahim Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin, under case number KWS\/64C\/2022.<\/p>\n

The case began after Ilorin-based lawyer, F. F. Ikebundu of Ayo Ajomole & Co., petitioned the ICPC, prompting a full investigation. Findings revealed that Mr. Oladapo had deliberately altered his date of birth through the National Population Commission, extending his career by four extra months and unlawfully earning a total of\u00a0\u20a61,233,258.95<\/strong>\u00a0in salaries and allowances between 2019 and 2020.<\/p>\n

ICPC prosecutors, Kalu Ugbo and Zainab Moshood, presented evidence showing that Mr. Oladapo falsified an affidavit in 2012, claiming to have been born in November 1964 instead of his actual birth year, 1959\u2014thereby altering his official service record since his employment began in 1997.<\/p>\n

He was charged with three counts, including falsification of documents, making false statements under oath, and illegally using his office for personal financial gain\u2014contrary to Sections 19 and 25 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.<\/p>\n

After a detailed trial, the court found him guilty on the first two counts relating to age falsification and unlawful advantage but acquitted him on the third count.<\/p>\n

Justice Yusuf sentenced Mr. Oladapo to\u00a0two years imprisonment<\/strong>, with an alternative fine of\u00a0\u20a6100,000 for each count<\/strong>, and ordered him to repay the full sum of\u00a0\u20a61,233,258.95<\/strong>\u00a0to the Federal Government.<\/p>\n

The convicted officer immediately complied, paying the\u00a0\u20a6200,000 fine<\/strong>\u00a0and refunding the illegal earnings in full into the ICPC Recovery Account.<\/p>\n

The ICPC, through its spokesperson, Demola Bakare, reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring accountability and integrity in public service.<\/p>\n
