Nigeria Urges Calm, Calls for Dialogue Amid Rising U.S.-Israel-Iran Tensions<\/p>\n

The Federal Government has appealed for restraint and de-escalation in the Gulf region as tensions continue to mount in the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.<\/p>\n

In a statement released on Sunday by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, expressed Nigeria\u2019s deep concern over the deteriorating situation and the potential threat it poses to regional and global stability.<\/p>\n

According to the minister, the growing hostilities carry serious risks and could have far-reaching consequences if not carefully managed. He therefore urged all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions capable of escalating the crisis further. He stressed the importance of prioritising dialogue over confrontation.<\/p>\n

Tuggar also called for strict adherence to international legal frameworks, particularly the United Nations Charter and the Geneva Conventions, highlighting the need to respect sovereignty, territorial integrity, and peaceful dispute resolution mechanisms.<\/p>\n

He emphasised the necessity of caution in the use of force to prevent further civilian casualties and to safeguard established principles of international law. Maintaining the global legal structure that regulates and limits the use of force, he noted, remains critical to protecting vulnerable populations and preserving international order.<\/p>\n

Reaffirming Nigeria\u2019s longstanding commitment to non-alignment, multilateral cooperation, and constructive engagement, the minister expressed support for renewed diplomatic initiatives within recognised international and regional platforms aimed at resolving the crisis.<\/p>\n

He welcomed confidence-building measures, mediation efforts, and dialogue among stakeholders, urging all sides to pursue peaceful solutions in the interest of collective security and shared prosperity.<\/p>\n

Tuggar reiterated that Nigeria stands in solidarity with the international community in calling for calm, maintaining that sustainable peace can only be achieved through diplomacy, mutual respect, and unwavering adherence to international law.<\/p>\n

Nigeria calls for De-escalation of US-Iran- Isreal Tension<\/p>\n

The Federal Government has called for de-escalation and restraint in the Gulf region following the ongoing U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday by the ministry\u2019s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa.<\/p>\n

Mr Ebienfa in the statement quoted Mr Tuggar as expressing deep concern over the rising tensions in the Gulf region, particularly the risk of further escalation with potentially grave consequences for regional and global stability.<\/p>\n

According to him, Nigeria calls on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and refrain from actions that can intensify hostilities, and prioritise dialogue over confrontation.<\/p>\n

Mr Tuggar said, \u201cWe urge strict adherence to the provisions of the UN Charter and the Geneva Convention, particularly taking into cognisance the respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the peaceful settlement of disputes.<\/p>\n

He stated, \u201cIn this regard, Nigeria emphasises the imperative of restraint in the use of lethal force, to prevent further loss of civilian life and avoid any actions that could undermine or abrogate established norms of international law.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe preservation of the existing legal architecture that regulates and limits the use of force remains essential to the protection of victims, safeguarding of civilian populations and maintenance of international order.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Tuggar further said that, as a longstanding advocate for non-alignment, multilateralism, and constructive engagement, Nigeria supported renewed diplomatic efforts within established international and regional frameworks to resolve the crisis.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe welcome initiatives aimed at confidence-building, mediation, and dialogue, and encourage all stakeholders and parties in the conflict to pursue peaceful resolution in the interest of collective security and shared prosperity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The minister reiterated that Nigeria was standing in solidarity with the international community in its call for calm.<\/p>\n

He added that Nigeria remained steadfast in its conviction that sustainable peace could only be secured through diplomacy, mutual respect, and faithful adherence to international law.<\/p>\n
