A powerful pen, she said, can make all the difference in child protection advocacy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>UNICEF\u2019s intervention focus<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-24909\" src=\"https:\/\/newsreservoir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG_20260429_1326472_copy_598x450-300x226.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newsreservoir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG_20260429_1326472_copy_598x450-300x226.jpg 300w, https:\/\/newsreservoir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG_20260429_1326472_copy_598x450-80x60.jpg 80w, https:\/\/newsreservoir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG_20260429_1326472_copy_598x450-558x420.jpg 558w, https:\/\/newsreservoir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG_20260429_1326472_copy_598x450.jpg 598w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A UNICEF team member, Mrs. Wakidara gave an overview of the organisation\u2019s interventions in Nigeria, focusing on health, nutrition, WASH, education, child protection, and social policy.<\/p>\n<p>She stressed the necessity of working with women to reach children effectively. She explained that UNICEF works closely with the Nigerian government to strengthen policies and provide humanitarian assistance to vulnerable children across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Several campaigns have been carried out, she noted, with more to come. \u201cIf you have to get to children, you have to work with women,\u201d she said, underscoring the importance of carrying women along.<\/p>\n<p>She listed UNICEF\u2019s six key programme areas: Child Survival and Development; Education; Child Protection; Social Policy and Social Protection; Gender Equality; and Humanitarian Action (Emergency Response), calling for collaboration to achieve these goals.<\/p>\n<p>Developing child protection policies in media houses<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-24911\" src=\"https:\/\/newsreservoir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG-20260504-WA0117-300x269.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newsreservoir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG-20260504-WA0117-300x269.jpg 300w, https:\/\/newsreservoir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG-20260504-WA0117-1024x919.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/newsreservoir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG-20260504-WA0117-768x689.jpg 768w, https:\/\/newsreservoir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG-20260504-WA0117-696x624.jpg 696w, https:\/\/newsreservoir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG-20260504-WA0117-1068x958.jpg 1068w, https:\/\/newsreservoir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG-20260504-WA0117-468x420.jpg 468w, https:\/\/newsreservoir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG-20260504-WA0117.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Another resource person, Mrs. Stella Bature, spoke on \u201cDeveloping a Media House Child Protection Policy.\u201d She highlighted areas necessary for organisational plans, including giving children a voice and ensuring their dignity is respected at all times.<\/p>\n<p>She also addressed digital reporting and the use of artificial intelligence (AI), noting its impact on making journalism easier.<\/p>\n<p>However, she urged journalists to maintain editorial integrity, observe editorial etiquette, and safeguard their image through ethical reportage. \u201cSafeguard your image by being ethical in your reportage,\u201d she called.<\/p>\n<p>Storytelling, AI, and ethical reporting<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-24910\" src=\"https:\/\/newsreservoir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG_20260429_1623542_copy_598x450-300x226.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newsreservoir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG_20260429_1623542_copy_598x450-300x226.jpg 300w, https:\/\/newsreservoir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG_20260429_1623542_copy_598x450-80x60.jpg 80w, https:\/\/newsreservoir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG_20260429_1623542_copy_598x450-558x420.jpg 558w, https:\/\/newsreservoir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IMG_20260429_1623542_copy_598x450.jpg 598w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Tamani Yusuf, in her presentation on storytelling, further stressed the impactful role of AI in reportage, particularly for evidence-based storytelling.<\/p>\n<p>She noted that AI can combine data, simplify tasks, offer wider coverage, aid advocacy, and help track records. But she cautioned that AI lacks human emotion, and information can be distorted if not well presented. \u201cAI is not human. It has no emotional feelings,\u201d she emphasised, adding that AI does not replace human storytelling. She called for journalists to be trained in using digital tools and to always fact-check information.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on ethical reporting, Mrs. Yusuf reminded journalists that child rights protection outweighs the public\u2019s right to know. \u201cNo child likes to be on the street. Every child will want to feel the embrace of a mother, but some challenges militate against them,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She noted that children of both the poor and the rich face different challenges.
