The Lagos Police command on Sunday said it has smashed a baby trafficking syndicate and recovered a week old baby from it.<\/p>\n
DSP Bala Elkana, the Police Public Relations Officer, in a statement, said one Gift Michael, 24, and Florence Doughlas, 50, were apprehended for buying and selling of babies.<\/p>\n
He said that investigations revealed that Douglas, a native of Igueben, Edo, who is not a registered nurse, operates two maternity clinics, Flofidel Clinic and Maternity Homes.<\/p>\n
Elkana said that Douglas has branches in Alimosho Local Government Area of the state.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe has admitted to being in the business of the sales of babies for a while.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe revealed that a baby girl is referred to as \u2018PINK\u2019 while a baby boy is called \u2018BLUE\u2019; and are both referred to as \u2018MARKET\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe further confessed that the week old male baby found in her custody at Jakande Gate, Ejigbo, was brought to her from Gombe, enroute Akure and was to be sold for N500,000,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The DSP said that there were pictures of about 50 different babies suspected to have already been sold off in the phone of the suspect.<\/p>\n
\u201cBabies are usually sold between N500, 000 and N1 million depending on their sex,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Elkana said that the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba has taken over the investigation of the case.<\/p>\n
\u201cInvestigation is ongoing and other members of the syndicate will be apprehended,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In another development, Policemen attached to Raiders State CID, Panti, Yaba, have arrested two notorious male armed robbery suspects.<\/p>\n
Elkana said that the robbery suspects named Seyi Ogundele, 36, aka \u2018Spartacus\u2019 and Ogunmola Akintola, 30, aka \u2018T-90\u2019 were arrested at their hideout at Coker junction by NNPC road in Ejigbo.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe suspects have been involved in series of armed robberies within Ejigbo and environs.<\/p>\n
