Grievance Redress Committee: Coordinator Opens Up On Mandate<\/p>\n

Dr. Yahaya Abubakar Aminu is one man whose hard work and dedication has earned him recognition to pivot a critical committee geared towards adding value to the economy well being of\u00a0 the State. He is the Project Coordinator, ‘Grievance Redress Committee’ (GRC) A committee \u00a0inaugurated yesterday in Kaduna by Her Excellency, Deputy Governor, Kaduna state, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe.<\/p>\n

In this brief interview, he takes us through the mandate of the committee and the committee’s readiness to deliver on this mandate.<\/p>\n

Sir, the Kaduna state Deputy Governor, just inaugurated members of your committee. Could you in a nutshell tell us its mandate?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The responsibility of the committee is to listen to complaints that would arise from individuals and communities that may be adversely affected by some of the activities within the project; and then find solutions through mediation to resolve the problems.<\/p>\n

If it is beyond what they can solve, they would refer the problems to relevant bodies or agencies.<\/p>\n

What number of farmers is this project targeting?<\/strong><\/p>\n

We are targeting 10,000 farmers in the life span of this project in Kaduna state.<\/p>\n

What are you intervention areas?<\/strong><\/p>\n

We have different activities but the major intervention areas are, ‘Women and Youth Empowerment Programme’ and there is the ‘Value Chain Investment Programme’.<\/p>\n

Under the Value Chain investment programme, the farmer would approach us with their letters of expression of interest in their cooperative societies or in their enterprises and then we would carry out the need assessment to identify the areas that they would need\u00a0 support to improve their businesses either in the areas of production, processing or even marketing. We would then give training on skills building activities for them to be able to prepare business investment plan that can be supportive under the project.<\/p>\n

If they are able to produce a viable business plan through our guidance and training, they would then get support of grants to be able to fund the investment.<\/p>\n

If it is the ‘Women and Youth Empowerment Programme’, that one comes in stages.<\/p>\n

The first stage is the expression of interest which has been completed where the prospective beneficiaries come to our offices to collect the expressions of interest form which they filled and submitted, which we have off loaded into our data bank and now we are in the process of processing the applications in order to sort out those candidates that are qualified or eligible. Those that meet our criteria.<\/p>\n

That would lead to a shortlist of the eligible beneficiaries after which an interview would be carried out in order to select those that can benefit from the programme.<\/p>\n

After selecting those that are eligible, they would then be linked or admitted into training institutions that would provide capacity building, skill building activities that would also lead them to prepare their business investment plan.<\/p>\n

Business investment plan is the gate way towards access to that of the budget.<\/p>\n

Is this a continuous process and if it is are you taking it in batches?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yes. It is a continuous activity. This activity would go on throughout the life span of this project. \u00a0Up till September, 2023.<\/p>\n

Speaking after the inauguration, one of the committee members, Hajiya Farida Abubakar, a journalist by profession and one time Chairperson, Nigerian Association of Women Journalists Kaduna, umbrella body of Nigeria Union Of Journalists, (NUJ), had expressed gratitude to the Kaduna state government for finding her worthy to be part of the committee. Her words.<\/p>\n

“l feel very honored for being considered worthy by the Kaduna state Government\u00a0 to be part of this committee.<\/p>\n

I want to assure the state government that we would do everything possible to justify the confidence reposed in us by not disappointing you.<\/p>\n

By recognizing Women Journalists and believing in us, l feel very happy and am saying, we would not fail you. Insha Allah<\/p>\n
