Kano State Government Targets 2.7 Million Children For Measles Vaccination<\/strong><\/div>\n

Children between the ages of\u00a0nine and 15 months have been targeted for the Kano State’s measles vaccination campaign scheduled for between Oct. 31 and Nov.12 this year.<\/strong><\/div>\n
The Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Health, Alhaji Usman Bala-Mohammed made this disclosure while briefing newsmen in Kano on Monday.<\/strong><\/div>\n
Government he said had already received 2.9 million doses of vaccines from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) for the campaign.<\/strong><\/div>\n
According to the Perm. Sect., the ministry had concluded the necessary arrangements for the successful conduct of the exercise across the state.<\/strong><\/div>\n
\u201cNo fewer than 24,500 personnel have been trained; required medical supplies and consumables have been distributed to the six zones and Local Government Areas (LGA) cold chain stores,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/div>\n
Medical supplies and consumables he added had also been distributed to over 1,200 primary and secondary healthcare facilities across the state.<\/strong><\/div>\n
The campaign will be carried out in a staggered manner across the 484 political wards of the 44 LGAs of the state. He intimated.<\/strong><\/div>\n
\u201cThe first phase of the campaign commences on Oct. 31 while the second phase will begin on Nov. 7.<\/strong><\/div>\n
Bala Mohammed while giving a review of last year’s measles campaign coverage had expressed optimism of reaching the 95 percent set national target come this outing.<\/strong><\/div>\n
\u201cKano State coverage during the last measles campaign in November 2017 was 75 per cent which is below the national agreed coverage of 95 per cent for children under the age of five years.<\/strong><\/div>\n
“The frequent reporting of suspected cases of measles necessitated the need for a quality statewide campaign with a view to reaching 95 per cent at all levels,\u2019\u2019 he informed.<\/strong><\/div>\n
While pleading for every hands to be on deck to ensure a fruithful exercise, Bala<\/strong><\/div>\n
called on the traditional rulers and other stakeholders to support government’s efforts in its stride to improve the lives and general wellbeing of residents in the state.<\/strong><\/div>\n
Parents he said owes it a responsibility to ensure the well being of their children while urging that they take advantage of the opportunity provided during this campaign to take their children to designated health facilities within their domains for vaccination.<\/strong><\/div>\n
