Concern has been raised on the need for government to regulate social media and internet usage in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
This concern was raised by Muslims under the umbrella of Nasrul Lahi-L-Fatih Society of Nigeria, (NASFAT) during a step-down training on \u2018mother’s school for prevention of violent extremism\u2019, held in collaboration with the Women Interfaith Council (WIC) Kaduna at NASFAT Kaduna mosque.<\/p>\n
Social media and internet usage it said promotes radicalism, extremism and violence among youths.<\/p>\n
The need for proper home management and upbringing of our children by mothers who by virtue of their nature are home makers and nation builders was emphasized as the rate of decadence in our society today has been attributed to the lack of proper management of our homes.<\/p>\n
The traditions and values which used to be the beauty of our cooperate existence seems not to matter any longer to many. The effect which has translated into all manners of violence and crimes witnessed in our present day\u2019s society. The extremism and violence\u00a0exhibited by youth, blamed on the society it insisted takes its root from our homes.<\/p>\n
The religious group argued that proper home management and upbringing of children at home translates to having a peaceful and progressive society, free from violence and terrorism.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the training was the General coordinator of WIC, Hajiya Amina Kazaure had asserted that with \u00a0 cheap access to internet and miscreant groups present on\u00a0social media, those children neglected by parents easily get exposed to illicit contents and ideas supposed to be out of their reach.<\/p>\n

Kazaure making reference to the London incidence said, government needs to regulate the internet because innocent children that visit internet and participate in group chats easily get brainwashed. \u201cBefore you know it, most of them have joined the ISIS, AL Qaeda and other extremist groups\u201d.<\/p>\n
NASFAT Women Leader, \u00a0Hajia Kudirat \u00a0Akinwale appealed to government to setup skills and acquisition centers where children can better themselves and be taught moral values as well as establish favorable policies which will improve on its citizens’ \u00a0standard of living. With good policy on ground, pressure on parents she said would be reduced and they will be able to focus more on their children.<\/p>\n
Hajia Kudirat tasking\u00a0parents to take the responsibility of instilling moral values in their children very seriously had warned against torturing as such could have negative effects on them saying, the essence of the gathering was\u00a0not only to show them how they could manage their homes and \u00a0protect their children from becoming extremists but to also guide them on how they can identify if any of their children is exhibiting strange behaviors\u2019. Home management and children upbringing is largely the responsibility of mothers. She Emphasized.<\/p>\n
“There is need for parents to study their children for change of characters and behavior. Know the type of friends they mingle with and observe their movements for these are leaders of tomorrow.” she explained.<\/p>\n
