The National President, Nigeria Union Of Journalists, (NUJ) Chief Chris Isiguzo has expressed the need\u00a0 to strengthen traditional institutions in Nigeria by\u00a0 giving them constitutional roles.<\/strong><\/div>\n
Not only should they be given constitutional roles but also called on relevant authorities to ensure proper funding for the royal fathers to enable them carry out their tasks.\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n
He made this call while on courtesy visit to\u00a0the Galadima of Muri, Alhaji Tukur Ana-Tukur at his palace in Jalingo yesterday.<\/strong><\/div>\n
Isiguzo explained that such recognition would enable the royal fathers contribute more to the security of the nation.<\/strong><\/div>\n

\u201cI want to call on the relevant authorities to effect a constitutional amendment to give <\/strong><\/div>\n

traditional rulers roles to help restore peace in their communities.<\/strong><\/div>\n
\u201cThere should also be increased funding for the royal fathers to enable them keep the rich cultural values and norms of the country\u2019s diverse ethnic groups,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/div>\n
Responding, the Galadima commended the NUJ National President for making such an important call.<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
Tukur, who lauded the role played by journalists in nation building, urged the media to continue to push for good governance for a better country.<\/strong><\/div>\n
