KADUNA STATE ON ITS WAY TO BECOMING THE LARGEST POULTRY MEAT MARKET IN NIGERIA AS PAP SIGNS A MULTI-BILLON NAIRA MOU WITH RICO GADO, GESE DERDIRABE —-BENSON EMAKPOR

\nThe signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by PEACE AID PROJECT (PAP), a non \u2013governmental organization with RICO GADO and GESE DERDIRABE in the area of Live Stock farming would help boost the economy of Kaduna state. The signing of the MOU for the supply of feeds and day old chicks to PEACE AID PROJECT would enhance the supply of consumables to all the farmers captured in the PAP initiative program. Aside this is the provision of job opportunities to thousands of women and youth in the state.
\nThis was disclosed to newsmen by the Founder\/Chief Executive Officer of PAP, Mr. Benson Emakpor in a press conference held at Mold Suit, Kaduna.
\nAccording to Mr. Benson, over ten thousand women and youths are to be empowered by PAP project as 500 entrepreneurs from each of the 23 Local Government Areas of the state are to benefit from the direct employment of the program while additional persons are to benefit from the indirect labor.
\n\u201cEach LG is going to have about 500 entrepreneurs. That is for the direct employment. Each of the entrepreneur that gets its poultry share for example, 5000 birds, would have to employ someone because he cannot look after the birds alone. That is another group of employment that would be created indirectly. Also, these live stocks would be processed when harvested to the farms. That also would create additional jobs for the people.<\/p>\n

\nBenson explained that Poultry farming is chosen for the people of Kaduna state because it is their own wish. He said out of the fifteen livestock program presented to the Kaduna state government, majority settled for poultry.
\n\u201cWe presented about 15 live stocks to Kaduna state government. They choose 9 live stocks. Among chosen were, piggery, goats, sheep, fishery, chicken for meat production and chicken for eggs. We had to tour the 23 local government areas and we ended up with 20 LGAs choosing poultry. Three LGs, Kaura, Kaduna south and Kaduna north chose fishery.
\nBefore one is qualified to be a beneficiary, he\/she has to key into the program. He said.
\n\u201cWe as an NGO believe that you would not be able to key into this project except you are from Kaduna state but the governor said \u2018no\u2019, anybody that is in Kaduna state is an indigene. He said even if you are from the moon and you live in Kaduna, you are a Kaduna indigene. So he has overruled us on that.
\n\u201cThis program comes in three folds. The first people that are going to key in are called the entrepreneurs. They are farmers. If you are a farmer and you want to key into this project, you are going to be in group of other farmers. The second groups are the ones we call the cooperatives. We want to create a value chain so that finished goods can move from A to B which is the company before it moves to C.
\nThis agreement would transform the poultry industry in Nigeria and position Kaduna state as the largest poultry meat market in Nigeria. With a projected output of over 214,200,000(Two hundred and fourteen Million, Two Hundred Thousand) processed birds annually, with the launch of the project in November, 2017, Nigeria can look inward for locally produced chicken products.\u201d
\nThe General Manger, RICO GADO and that of GESE DERDIRABE both have stressed their commitments to making the project a success story.
\nAs to what the partners stand to benefit from this partnership, the Managing Director RICO GADO has this to say.
\n\u201cOur goal here is to play an important role in helping and developing livestock mass sector in Kaduna state. That is why we are in Kaduna today. I am happy to inform you that 96% of the raw materials incorporated in our feeds are locally produced\u201d.
\nThe program is domicile in the Ministry of agriculture and has the Director, Birds Services as its Adhoc Committee Implementation Chairman.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cWith such qualified person on board, monitoring of the program is not going to be a problem. More so, the UN would equally be there to monitor\u201d. The Chief Executive Officer PAP assured.
\nThe signing of the MOU was witnessed by the Hon. Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Commissioner, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Hon. Commissioner Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Hafsat Baba.
