The late Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr Abba Kyari, was laid to rest after funeral prayer at his residence at the Defence House in Abuja.<\/strong><\/div>\n

Kyari died in the late hours of Friday after battling with ailments aggravated by COVID-19 disease.<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The funeral prayer was private in line with the protocol put in place for the burial of Coronavirus victims by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Federal Ministry of Health.<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Senior Special Assistant to President on Media and Publicity Mr Garba Shehu said there would be no condolence visits to family of the late Chief of Staff.<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Shehu, who disclosed this in a statement in Abuja, said this was in keeping with the protocol established by the NCDC.<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cThere will be no such ceremonies as condolence visits. Well meaning friends, family members and the general public are encouraged to pray for the repose of Abba Kyari\u2019s soul. May Allah grant the family and nation the fortitude to bear the loss,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Abba Kyari tested positive for the Coronavirus on March 23, 2020, and was moved to a private hospital in Lagos for treatment.<\/strong><\/div>\n

On Sunday, March 29, 2020, the late Chief of Staff issued a public on his COVID-19 status thus: \u201cI am writing to let you know that on medical advice, I will transfer to Lagos later today for additional tests and observation. This is a precautionary measure: I feel well, but last week, I tested positive for coronavirus, the pandemic that is sweeping the world. I have followed all the protocols government has announced to self-isolate and quarantine.<\/strong><\/div>\n

\u201cI have made my own care arrangements to avoid further burdening the public health system, which faces so many pressures. Like many others that will test also positive, I have not experienced high fever or other symptoms associated with this new virus and have been working from home. I hope to be back at my desk very soon. I have a team of young, professional, knowledgeable and patriotic colleagues, whose dedication has been beyond the call of duty, who continue to work seven days a week, with no time of the day spared. We will continue to serve the President and people of Nigeria, as we have for the past five years.<\/strong><\/div>\n

\u201cI want to thank all our fantastic, talented and brave healthcare professionals, working across the country in such a difficult time; all the good Samaritans looking out for the most vulnerable in our communities; the key workers that will keep our country going through this; friends and family and often strangers, who have sent me such warm wishes and displayed such a generosity of spirit.<\/strong><\/div>\n

Abba Kyari, Kanuri from Borno, who died on 17 April 2020 was a Nigerian politician and former Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari.<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
In 1980, according to different biographical information on him (aggregated by Wikipedia), he graduated with a bachelor\u2019s degree in sociology from the University of Warwick, and also received a bachelor\u2019s degree in law from the University of Cambridge. In 1983, he was called to the Nigerian Bar after attending the Nigerian Law School.<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u2018In 1984, he obtained a master\u2019s degree in law from the University of Cambridge. He later attended the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland and participated in the Program for Management Development at the Harvard Business School, in 1992 and 1994, respectively.<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Kyari was married to the sister-in-law of Ibrahim Tahir, and has four children.<\/strong><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
On March 24, 2020, it was made public that Kyari tested positive for COVID-19 on March 23, following an official trip to Germany nine days before. It was also reported that Kyari has underlying medical conditions, and was secretly flown out of the country. He later rejected these claims, and was moved from Abuja to Lagos. He died on Friday 17th April, 2020 as a result of the virus.
