KDSG Announces Reopening Of Schools …SS2, JSS2, Primary 6 To Resume Monday, Oct.19, 2020<\/p>\n

The Kaduna State Government has announced the resumption of students in SS2, JSS2 and primary6 across the state with effect from Monday, October 19th, 2020.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Commissioner of Education, Kaduna state, Shehu Usman\u00a0 Muhammad Makarfi made this revelation while addressing journalists during a press conference held at the Nigeria Union Journalists secretariat Kaduna.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
All necessary precautionary measures he said have been put in place to ensure smooth learning and safety of students especially at this period of Covid-19.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
According to him, they are tapping from the experiences and strategies put in place to ensure smooth conduct of\u00a0 both WASC and NECO examinations.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“That experience we had has taught us some lessons and we felt we can use it to open up for the next sets of students to come back for one exam or the other.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\n“Over 1000 students sat for those examinations and only two students with Covid -19 symptoms were noticed and isolated to write their examinations.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
” The arrangements we made for social distancing, provision of facemasks, the provition of thermometers for temperature reading wash hand facilities, all we felt had worked and we are now very comfortable to say from Monday next week, the children can resume.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“The 18th of October for the SS2 boarding students to come back to school and 19th October for the day students.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“All the SS2, JSS2, and Primary 6 students will come back to school to seat for their various examinations. SS2 students will write exam that will move them to SS3, JSS2 students will write exam that will move them to JSS3 while primary 6 pupils will come and write their exit exam that will take them to JSS1”.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“We have made adequate arrangements in our institutions. The commissioner explained.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“We will monitor the process and once the arrangements we made are adequate, we will also invite the next batch of students to join their colleagues in school. That we will do gradually until we are able to absorb all the students back to classes”. He added.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The teaching he said would be segmented in order to avoid overcrowdiness in class as well as maintain effective teaching.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Two sessions will be conducted, morning and afternoon classes in order to maintain social distancing. We are encouraging blended learning where online learning will be included.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“We have instructed principals of schools to ensure that there is adequate space in the classes. No normal classroom should have more than 20 students.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Covid-19 committee is already on ground and will monitor how the institutions are faring.” He assured.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Shehu had advised that parents play their roles by ensuring that adequate care is taken as regards their childrens’ safety both at home and outside the home.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“We encourage Parents to arrange adequate transportation for their wards. To arrange buses that will convey their children from their communities to schools because we want to reduce community transmission diseases.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“We have encouraged parents to provide portable hand sanitizers for their wards so as to use when they are boarding and alighting from the\u00a0 vehicle, to and from school.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“We have encouraged parents to provide more than one facemasks for their children so that when one is dirty they can wash and keep and wear another one.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Answering questions as to the fate of private schools operators, lslamic\/Quranic schools and that of the university students, he has this to say.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“We are discussing with proprietors of private schools. We have encouraged them to look into the plight of their teachers who have not received a dine during the Covid -19 lockdown because they are partners. They should be supported. Both government and these institutions are discussing to see how they can alleviate their problems.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Both public and private school are reopening as long as the private schools comply with state government rule and regulations and Covid -19 guideline. Both are to absorb their students gradually. He emphasized.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
University authorities have also been told what to do.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Kaduna state government has approved a budget of over 100Million Naira for this. The Commissioner informed.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“At the initial stage, His Excellency approved 200 Million Naira to do this. As at today, we have submitted a budget of over 100Million naira and it has been approved.”<\/div>\n
