The Vice President of Industrial Global Union, Mr Issa Aremu has called on the federal government to reactivate the textile industries in order to create jobs for it citizens.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The current government he said could create 100 million jobs over the next 10 years putting necessary machineries in motion.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n

He made this call on Saturday in Lokoja at a one-day interactive session on the 5-year policy Trust of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) \u2013 (2019-2024), organized by the CBN, in collaboration with Organised Labour and other stakeholders.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n

The textile industries alone can generate over 2.5 million jobs in Nigeria if rejuvenated. He emphasized.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
While urging President Muhammadu Buhari to leverage on these industries to revive the country’s economy, he said,\u00a0through the CBN intervention in cotton production, the narratives have changed from cotton shortages to cotton abundance and the country should no longer import cotton from Benin Republic.<\/div>\n

Aremu, who is also the General Secretary, National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NVTGTWN), said, \u201cNow, the challenge is that many ginneries have come back and are ginning the cotton seeds. They will then move to milling, weaving, spinning and the final product.<\/div>\n

Lamenting he said,<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
\u201cYou won\u2019t believe it, uniforms for the Nigeria Customs Services, Police and the Army are produced in Bangladesh and India.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
This has\u00a0 security impplication saying, our textile industries if properly rejuvenated has the capacity to produce these uniforms.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“We can even use it to kick-start new factories and you can imagine if we all agree that uniforms of primary and secondary school children should be produced locally, many of the garment factories will come back and this will get youths gainfully employed,\u201d He added.<\/div>\n
