Kaduna Rotary Club on Saturday installed its 55th President to run the affairs of the club for a period of one year.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The occassion of the installation which was graced by dignitararies, Rotorians friends and non Rotarians\u00a0 brought to fore recorded achievements of the club as well as unfolded other far reaching projects for the needy and less privileged in the society.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Speaking, the Chairman of the occasion,<\/div>\n
Chairman, Blue Print Newspapers, Alhaji Mohammed Idris\u00a0commended Kaduna Rotary club for its dodgedness and quest to serving humanity through their laudable programmes.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Idris described the newly installed President,\u00a0 Rotarian Joycelyn Anagende as\u00a0 a woman of substance, versertile and ever ready to deliver.<\/div>\n
Kaduna Rotary club will under her leadership witness meaningful developments. He assured.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Delivering her acceptance speech,\u00a0 Rotarian Joycelyn thanked the Rotarians for finding her worthy of the position while assuring them of her unflinching commitments to take the club to another level.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“It is with profound humility that I welcome you all to this auspicious event of formal investiture as the 55th President of our great club the Rotary Club of Kaduna.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

“I want to specially appreciate the entire members of this club for having faith in me to lead the club this Rotary year.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
With your support, I thereby accept to become the 55th president of our noble club. You have my sincere assurance that I will be dedicated to the cause to Rotary in this role. The same way I have demonstrated my commitment over the past years since I joined Rotary.<\/div>\n

“Together we shall make a huge progress by piloting things together.<\/div>\n

“I wish to reiterate that my passion and drive for services to humanity has never ceased or changed from the first day, although the times are daunting and pandemic has posed unimaginable challenges for the Rotary circle.<\/div>\n
I\u2019m particularly encouraged that as a club we have weathered the storms, adapted and impacted on our immediate communities in these few months of transition.<\/div>\n

“We started out strong and hit the ground running, we encourage by the admonition of the Rotary International Past vice President that opportunity wears a mask called adversity, only those who wear the mask are rewarded with it advantage, he who fail to plan, plan to fail.<\/div>\n

President Joycelyn opening up on her 7 points agenda assured that<\/div>\n
together with her newly inaugurated board members and cooperation of every members cooperation, she will be able to execute and bring her seven area of focus to fission. She added.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n

“The club was built on\u00a0 a strong leadership foundation, and I am fortunate to have a membership that is fully committed to the Rotary ideal of service above self.<\/div>\n
The Theme: of this Rotary year is opens opportunities, it is therefore our focus to create opportunities that strengthen leadership, service\u00a0 and translate ideas to action.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
“Rotary is a huge platform that gives us unlimited access to individuals both at home and abroad who later turn out to become friend, business associated and family.<\/div>\n
I therefore encourage us to do good around the world as we unlock the various opportunities on the stable of Rotary.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n

“In this Rotary year about the sum of 5 million Naira has been budgedted to enable us carry out projects in the 7 areas of focus.<\/div>\n
* Peace and clonflict prevention\/resolution<\/div>\n
* Disease prevention and treatment<\/div>\n
* Water and sanitation<\/div>\n
* Maternal and child birth<\/div>\n
* Economic and community development<\/div>\n
* Supporting an environment<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
This project to a long way to assist the less privileged in our midst, create a better environment and everyone is happy.\u00a0 I therefore appeal to us to donate generous to assist us in carting out project in this 7 areas of focus.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
One of such life impacting projects is evidence in that of a family whose baby\u00a0 had multiple holes in the heart and was assisted by the club.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Rotarian Yakubu Abubakar met\u00a0 this family at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU)\u00a0 hospital and linked them up with the club.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The family of Mr and Mrs lbrahim was at the event to give testimony as to how Kaduna Rotary club impacts on the lives of the people.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

We are appreciative to God and Kaduna Rotary club. Kaduna Rotary club has really impacted on our lives and we will forever remain grateful.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
We were faced with dilemma on how to make my daughter Ummukulsum survive. She had multiple holes in her heart. As God would have it, we met Rotarian Yakubu Abubakar, a God sent who linked us with Kaduna Rotary club. The club sent us to India where she had a successful surgery.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Our accommodation and food were all taken cared of by Kaduna Rotary club. We are saying thank you and long live Kaduna Rotary club.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

Past President\/Past Assistant Governor, Rotarian Elsie Edochie whom President Joycelyn\u00a0 Anagende took over from has this to say.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Jocelyn is somebody who is very committed. If you call Jocelyn in the night, she will answer you.<\/div>\n
After this year, she is qualified to take leadership at the district level. From there, by God’s willing, she will proceed to international level.<\/div>\n

So, the basic is to become your club’s president.<\/div>\n

Whatever challenges you face, when you have willing members, when you have people who are dedicated, people who take it as personal thing, you will achieve a lot. She explained.<\/div>\n

Paper presentation tiltled, “Curtailing Insecurity and Reviving the Economy Nigeria: Opportunity in Crisis? was delivered by an lndependent Political Risk and Strategic Foresight Consultant, Abdulrauf Aliyu.<\/div>\n
The paper presentation which took an indepth look at the country’s struggles with slow growth and persistent economy imbalances seeked to know what the future holds for Nigeria.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Aliyu noted that with the impact of Covid-19 and the already degenerated things on ground, such as the issue of insecurity, stagnating oil output, counterproductive policy making,\u00a0 the government would have to be proactive in order to safe the country from economy disaster.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He said,<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“ln the recent released Q2 GDP report by National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the country’s economy is said to have contracted by -6% from 1.9% in Q1. This means the country’s economic conditions drastically deteriorated between Q1 and Q2.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Aliyu continues,<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“The reality is that the Nigerian economy has been very weak (and in decline) for half a decade due to stagnating oil output, falling prices, insecurity and counterproductive policymaking. Covid-19 only moved us into crisis of real GDP and the recent social unrests may likely worsen it.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u00a0What the country is witnessing Aliyu emphasized is, ‘slow motion fiscal disaster’.<\/div>\n
He added that,<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“The country’s federal government (and indeed some states) are already spending more of their budget on debt servicing than any other sort of expenditure.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“The country’s narrow revenue base of 6% of GDP leaves government a very limited ability to service its debts, while repayment costs is already consuming well over half of all the government’s revenue. So, while we look relatively solid on traditional debt metrics, the situation is much more delicate.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
According to him, “this is the time for Nigeria to begin to manage her resources prudently.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“The Nigeria’s structural weakness and poor policymaking that dragged on growth in recent years will continue to except if radical economic measures are taken.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The presenter urged the government to managed her wealth well by putting in place sound set of institutional control that will help accelerate a robost economy.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“This is the best period for the government to address her huge current account deficit. Thus, she must embark on aggressive structural transformation and import substitution policies.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“The country must as a matter of urgency reduce her dependence on imports while at the same time engage in import promotion. Failure to do so will further worsen\u00a0 her current account balances.<\/div>\n
He stressed.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The event also featured presentatation of awards to deserving persons who had contributed to the course\u00a0 of humanity.<\/div>\n
