The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has called on Nigerians to ensure that they obtain their National Identification Number (NIN) as it will be used as prerequisite to obtain driver’s license and registration of vehicles.<\/div>\n

In a statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi\u00a0 emphasised his resolve to ensured that NIN is made mandatory for all categories of Vehicle registration, effective from second quarter of 2021.<\/div>\n

This he said was in total compliance with the Presidential directives.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
There would be no waiver for anyone irrespective of their status in the society as applicants would be\u00a0expected to present their National Identification Number as a precondition for the registration of their vehicles. The statement added.<\/div>\n

Kazeem noted that the exercise was imperative as it will help in\u00a0harmonizing<\/div>\n
\u00a0database on individual citizens thus providing needed information which will help in identifying individuals. This will go a long way in\u00a0assisting security agencies in data collation and speedy retrievals to address critical national security challenges.<\/div>\n

It is a clarion call by the Corps Marshal that\u00a0members of the public who have not enrolled in the ongoing NIN registration at the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to do so\u00a0as the Corps will not register any vehicle whose owner is not captured in the NIMC database.<\/div>\n

The statement further emphasized.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cBeginning from the second quarter of this year (2021), If you want to register your vehicle, it is going to be compulsory for you to provide your NIN. This is part of the security checks. So once you provide your NIN, it makes the matter easier and helps the government in national planning, critical decision making and also enhances adequate Intelligence gathering for security of lives and properties\u201d.<\/div>\n

There is no doubt that FRSC already has commenced compliance on the directive since 21st of December, 2020 as applicants for National Driver\u2019s License are asked to present the National Identification Number (NIN) from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) before they can be captured for any class of the licenses produced by them.<\/div>\n
So , to curb corruption in the driver’s license production chain, NIN is now mandatory for any one applying for the license.<\/div>\n
