The newly appointed Director General,\u00a0 World Trade Organization, (WTO) Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is set for the tasks ahead.<\/div>\n

According to her, she is good to go as there are lots of work to be done.<\/div>\n

This was disclosed in a social media statement on Monday morning by the WTO.<\/div>\n

Okonjo-Iweala said the WTO has lots of work to do and she feels ready to start.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Welcoming her on her first day in office yesterday,\u00a0 Monday, 1st of March, as WTO Director General,\u00a0the trade organisation said: \u201cDr Ngozi has made history as the first woman and first African to take up this post.\u201d<\/div>\n

Dr. Iweala said, she is \u201ccoming into one of the most important institutions in the world and we have a lot of work to do. I feel ready to\u00a0go”.<\/span><\/div>\n

Suffices to say that this woman of substance almost had her appointment scuppered by the former American president Donald Trump, whose administration preferred South Korea’s trade minister Yoo Myung-hee for the job.<\/div>\n
That notwithstanding, with God on her side and her good work speaking for her, she was able to weather the storm.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Global Trade Body in a statement revealed that the WTO members agreed to appoint Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the next Director-General,\u201d<\/div>\n

President Joe Biden subsequently endorsed the Nigerian for the position, with the US Trade Representative praising her \u201cwealth of knowledge in economics and international diplomacy<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
