Kaduna State Government has formulated\u00a0 a roburst policy documents to enhance the unprecedent growth and development of agriculture, after nine months of research and extensive consultations. This will help give the sector a boost.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
This was disclosed to newsmen at a press conference on Tuesday by the Commissioner of Agriculture, Hajiya Halima Lawal.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
She said, the Kaduna State Agricultural Sector has experienced tremendous growth over the past years under the current administration of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Governor of Kaduna State.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The policy evolved in response to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 1 and 2 and the need to diversify the\u00a0 economy will develop agriculture\u00a0 in the state.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

According to her,\u00a0 the policy was\u00a0 conceived to accelerate agricultural development and facilitate its overall socio-economic prosperity by addressing the huge challenge of inefficient and ineffective agricultural systems.<\/div>\n

Governor\u00a0 Nasir El Rufai’s\u00a0 administration recognizes that in ensuring food self-sufficiency for employment generation and stimulating agro industrial development, Agricultural is key.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u00a0\u2018\u2019Agriculture as the economic backbone, create self-sufficiency in food production in line with the federal government’s effort to diversify the economy, reducing over-dependency on oil and ultimately create enabling environment for private sector investment.\u2019\u2019<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The commissioner also\u00a0 said that the documents\u00a0 will guide \u2018\u2019all stakeholders in the state’s quest for rapid agricultural development including the private sector through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) concept, as well as in ‘stand-alone’ investments in line with global best practices.\u2019\u2019<\/div>\n

Halima also noted that the documents will provide strong legal framework for the needed confidence to investors in the sector as well as commit\u00a0 the state and local governments to adequate annual budgetary allocations to agriculture.<\/div>\n

Women are not left out she added for she is very passionate\u00a0 about\u00a0 agriculture .<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Women are not left out for we have sectors\u00a0 of commodity chains development such as livestock,\u00a0 poultry dairy, fishery and other activities.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Halima thanked\u00a0 both the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa(AGRA) for funding\u00a0 the evolution of the policy through a two-year capacity strengthening project,\u00a0 and the facilitator, Synergos Nigeria for their assistance.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
\u00a0She also commended the Partnership for Inclusive Agricultural Transformation in Africa (PIATA),\u00a0 the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, UKAid and the Rockefeller Foundation for their support.<\/div>\n
