A group under the umbrella of\u00a0Coalition of Women Leaders in Kaduna state has<\/div>\n
called for an inclusive constitution.<\/div>\n

This call was made in Kaduna today by the group during a Media Round Table ahead of the 2day Constitutional\u00a0 Review Public Hearing which took place across\u00a0 the nation.<\/div>\n

The group is calling on the government particularly distinguished members of the State House of Assembly, the Senate and members of the House of Representatives to endorse amendments proposed in the constitutional review process to not only<\/div>\n
increase Women’s leadership but also reflect\u00a0 gender inclusive\u00a0 language.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
In her opening remark, member Steering Committee Coalition on COVID-19 response, Emilia CsaSzar described the zonal public hearings as presenting\u00a0 an invaluable avenue\u00a0 for all Nigerians to appeal for a national framework that reflects modern values of true equality and equity.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

“The Coalition\u00a0 of Women Leaders in Kaduna\u00a0 on COVID -19 Response\u00a0 is implementing a strategic 3point interventions in the areas of advocacy\u00a0 efforts, engaging\u00a0 government, influencers and grassroot organizations to increase women political\u00a0 participation and decision\u00a0 making, strengthen collaboration\u00a0 between\u00a0 women\u00a0 leaders of coalition\u00a0 through this platform.<\/div>\n
Also,\u00a0 increasing the visibility of women\u00a0 leaders and finally,\u00a0 monitoring and accountability to track government actions and policies to highlight needs of women and girls.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The establishment\u00a0 of this coalition which comprises of women leaders in government,\u00a0 civil societies and private sectors have been\u00a0 made possible by the UN women.”\u00a0 She informed.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

CsaSzar while urging\u00a0 for an\u00a0unbiased representation of groups advocating for a constitution that promotes full participation of women political roles<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

charged the media to ensure that\u00a0messages of inclusion and democratic integrity are amplified in their reportage.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
Presenting the position paper of the Coalition,\u00a0<\/span>Jemilat Abidoye, seeked for additional and special seats for women in the federal and state legislative houses.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u00a0The constitution she said already has created the federal character as an affirmative action and\u00a0 mechanism that ensures the representation of marginalised groups in the country.<\/div>\n

She said\u00a0in addition to these constitutional provisions, the national gender policy was also intended to increase the number of women in political offices, party organs and public life by setting a goal of 35% affirmative action to support women to all elected and appointed positions by 2015, but the reality is that women\u2019s political participation is still below 10% which\u00a0 is very low.<\/div>\n
