Syrian president calls for global support amid Israeli attacks<\/p>\n

The second day of the United Nations General Assembly\u2018s annual General Debate is now under way.<\/p>\n
Wednesday\u2019s slate of speakers included Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Iran\u2019s Masoud Pezeshkian, Argentina\u2019s Javier Milei and Syria\u2019s interim leader Ahmed al-Sharaa.<\/p>\n
Al-Sharaa\u2019s speech is the first time in almost six decades that a Syrian leader has addressed the General Assembly.<\/p>\n
Israel\u2019s war on Gaza dominated discussions on the first and second days of the debate, with several world leaders calling for an immediate end to Israeli attacks and the entry of humanitarian aid into the besieged territory.<\/p>\n
United States President Donald Trump used his speech on Tuesday to denounce immigration, climate change and the UN itself, though he did later voice support for Ukraine regaining control of its territory from Russia.<\/p>\n
