So, it\u2019s important that those who have been abused speak up about their abusers,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know sometimes, a lot of people cannot speak up because they are threatened. That\u2019s why we need to counsel people on why they should speak up otherwise the abuse goes on for years without anything being done.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut if people can speak up, the situation will be different because that is the first step to sorting out the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first lady also stressed the need for collective effort in combating gender-based violence in the country.<\/p>\n<p>She revealed that several initiatives including launch of an advocacy movement against rape in schools and the establishment of Ajike people\u2019s support centre have been put in place in Kwara to combat sexual violence.<\/p>\n<p>Olufolake also commended the decision by the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) to declare a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecable.ng\/governors-declare-state-of-emergency-on-rape\"><strong>state of emergency<\/strong> <\/a>on gender-based and sexual form of violence in the country.<\/p>\n<p>She, however, said there is need to also encourage discussions about sexual assault among boys, noting that they are also affected by the scourge.<\/p>\n<p>Badmus had recently <a href=\"https:\/\/lifestyle.thecable.ng\/bisi-fayemi-how-my-mothers-relative-attempted-to-molest-me-at-10\/\"><strong>featured<\/strong><\/a> Bisi Fayemi, wife of Ekiti governor, in the series aimed at enlightening Nigerians on gender-based violence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nigeria can\u2019t fight rape if victims don\u2019t speak up, says Kwara first lady Olufolake Abdulrazaq, wife of Kwara governor, says Nigeria can\u2019t fight rape and other forms of sexual violence if those abused don\u2019t speak up.
