The FG should withdraw the charges against them and return them back to their states.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the International Human Rights Commission \u2013 Relief Fund Trust (IHRC-RFT) Nigeria Chapter has issued a pressing plea to the Nigerian judiciary to safeguard the rights of minors unjustly detained during the #EndBadGovernance protests.<\/p>\n<p>Time Express reports that,<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The organization, accredited by the United Nations ECOSOC, is alarmed by the distressing condition of malnourished children in court, many of whom may not meet the legal age threshold for formal arraignment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;IHRC-RFT attributes the plight of these young detainees to a systemic failure that has left Nigeria\u2019s children exposed to exploitation and abuse at home, in school, and in society.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Rather than addressing the root causes, the government is punishing them for trying to survive in a challenging environment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The IHRC-RFT urges the judiciary to:Verify Ages of Detainees, Ensure no child below the legal age is subjected to undue criminalization.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Protect Minors from Inhumane Treatment, Address severe physical and mental distress caused by prolonged detention and malnutrition and Reject Executive Overreach.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The IHRC-RFT appeals to international and local human rights advocates to speak out against these injustices.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The organization remains committed to protecting and defending the rights of all individuals, especially children.<\/p>\n<p>Amb. Abdullahi Bakoji Adamu, Country Director of IHRC-RFT Nigeria Chapter, emphasized the importance of collective action in upholding a vision of Nigeria that values justice, equity, and the rights of every child to a safe, dignified life.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile,\u00a0 the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice,<\/p>\n<p>Prince Lateef Fagbemi in a press statement dated, November 1, 2024, has\u00a0 assured to look into the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Below is the press release:<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;It has just come to my notice that the police have arraigned those arrested in connection with the endbad governance violent protest in court for various offences including treason.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;There are some issues my office will need to look into regarding the matter to enable me take an informed decision.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;I am aware that the court has remanded the defendants in detention centres and adjourned the case to January.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;It is not within my power to vary the order of the court remanding the defendants in detention centres and adjourning the case to January.
