Kaduna PDP Guber Primaries: Ashiru Gets Land Slide Victory with 1,330 Votes

Former APC Gubernatorial Aspirant in the 2015 general election Hon. Mohammed Isa Ashiru Kudan has emerged the winner of the 2018 PDP gubernatorial primaries.

The primaries which was keenly contested was transparently conducted in presence of the media and all party faithful.

Ashiru, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer for the 2019 general elections

Polled 1,330 votes out of the 2,654 delegates that voted at the primaries election held at the Kaduna international Trade Fair Complex.

The primaries which lasted over 24 hours commenced at about 10am on Sunday September 30, while voting ended around 7:30am on Monday October 1.

Distinguished Senator Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi claimed second position while the former Director General National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mohammed Sani Sidi finished third. .

The Electoral Committee Chairman Philip Aivoji  declaring  Ashiru winner around 12 noon on Monday,  described the contestants as men of integrity , honour and impeccable character who had  kept to their promises of ensuring the spirit of unity of purpose irrespective of who emerges the winner.

“You are all people of integrity, people of honor, people of impeccable character. When they say things, they keep to their words. We started this process with God and the election had been free, fair and credible . “ He said.

Worthy of note is the spirit of togetherness exhibited by the aspirants who even before the declaration of the winner by the Electoral Committee Chairman, they had started congratulating the winner.

Earlier in his speech, PDP Kaduna State  Chairman , Honourable Felix Hassan Hyet had commended the spirit with which all the aspirants  went about the contest urging them to stick together for the benefit of the overall interest of the party as success he said is going to be theirs.

In his acceptance speech, Ashiru had assured the people of their commitment to restoring the state back to its past glory and that they are battle ready to take over Sir Kassim Ibrahim House come 2019.

Ashiru seek his co-contestants’ cooperation so as to forge ahead in their fight to reclaim the state.

“Let me tell you that l am not better than my co-contestants. I don’t see them as co-contestants but my brothers. I cannot do it alone but with their cooperation we shall get there.

“I regard my victory as a collective one. I say, no winner, no vanquish. I want to assure you of inclusiveness in our party arrangements. We would leave no stone unturned to ensure that our people are well taken care of.

“We are battle ready to take over Sir Kassim Ibrahim House come 2019 Insha Allah. The battle is not mine but a united one.” He concluded.

Result announced by the electoral committee chairman, Phillip Aivoji reads thus:  Hon. Ashiru, 1330 votes; Sani Sidi 560 votes; Sen.Sule Hunkuyi 564 votes; Immediate past Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero had 36 votes;  Shuaibi Idris Miqati 16 votes; Johnathan Kish Adamu, 2 votes. Muhammed Sani Bello and Dauda Ahmadu Ibrahim both had no votes.

Number of invalid votes stood at 39. Altogether, 10 aspirants contested.

While the primaries was in progress, and with 20 LG delegates yet to cast their votes, out of the 23 local governments, Jafar Sa’ad and Muhammad Bello Umar withdrew from the race.

Security agencies and the media on ground were commended for a job well done.
