APC Legal Adviser Hails Musawa’s Daura Honour, Says ‘Queen Amina of Our Time’ Deserves the Title

The National Legal Adviser (NLA) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Murtala Aliyu Kankia, has described the conferment of the traditional title “Mairamar Kasar Hausa I” on the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, as a fitting recognition of her growing role in promoting Hausa heritage and culture.

The title, meaning “First Daughter of Hausa Land,” was bestowed on Musawa by the Emir of Daura, Dr Umar Faruk Umar, in recognition of her contributions and standing.

In a congratulatory message, Kankia said he had long believed that Musawa would rise to a position where she could effectively represent Hausa land and project its rich cultural heritage.

“I know one day she will earn a position representing Hausa land and its heritage,” he said.

The APC Legal Adviser said the honour had taken on added significance given Musawa’s current responsibility as Minister overseeing Nigeria’s arts, culture, tourism and creative economy.

Kankia also recalled that Musawa had previously been described by some as “Queen Amina of our time,” drawing a parallel with the legendary Hausa warrior queen, Amina of Zazzau.

He said the comparison reflected the expectations surrounding Musawa’s public role and her capacity to champion the identity, history and cultural heritage of the Hausa people.

According to him, the traditional recognition should therefore be viewed not merely as a personal honour for the minister but as a call to greater responsibility in preserving and promoting the heritage she has been entrusted to represent.

He expressed confidence that Musawa would continue to use her office to advance Nigeria’s cultural heritage while strengthening the contribution of the creative and tourism sectors to national development.

The conferment also comes at a time when the Federal Government is placing increasing emphasis on arts, culture, tourism and the creative economy as avenues for economic diversification, job creation and the promotion of Nigeria’s national identity.
