Tinubu Appoints Abel Enitan Head of Civil Service, Succeeds Walson-Jack
ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HOCSF), effective August 27, 2026.
The appointment was announced on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, through his official X account.
Enitan will succeed Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is set to retire from the Federal Civil Service after attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.
According to the Presidency, Enitan, an indigene of Osun State, is currently the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service. He has served in that capacity for seven years and seven months.
During his years as a Permanent Secretary, Enitan served in the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President. He is currently the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education.
The Presidency described the incoming HOCSF as an experienced civil servant with considerable institutional knowledge and a deep understanding of the operations of the Federal Civil Service.
President Tinubu commended the outgoing Head of Service, Walson-Jack, for her years of dedicated service to the nation, particularly the reforms, innovations and impact recorded in the Civil Service during her tenure. He wished her a fulfilling post-retirement life and expressed appreciation for her contributions to the public service.
The President charged Enitan to build on the reforms and innovations already introduced in the Civil Service, while strengthening professionalism, efficiency and accountability across the service.
Tinubu also urged the new Head of Service to lead a Civil Service that is merit-driven, innovative and responsive to the needs and aspirations of Nigerians, in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Born on December 12, 1966, Enitan attended Ajibode Grammar School, Ibadan, and the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife, before proceeding to the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking in 1988.
He later earned a Master of Science degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia, in 2015.
