WORLD HIJAB DAY: Hijab A Crown, Not A Crime – FOMWAN

Zainab Tanimu

Kaduna, Northwest, Nigeria

President FOMWAN Kaduna Branch Pharm. Aisha Isiyaku has called on Muslim women to develop the habit of wearing hijab as commanded by Allah SWT.
This call was made as they joined their counter parts all over the world to mark the world hijab day.
Hijab she explained is a shield.
” Hijab is a normal dressing of a Muslimat (Muslim Woman) meaning, cover yourself and dress well. There are various types of hijabs. The basic thing is that a Muslim woman is enjoined to cover herself, that is what we are promoting, and that is to say, our dressing is not a crime.
Our focus is on students and we are marking it on a weekend so as not to disturb their studies.
It is normally celebrated globally on the first of February.
Teach your children how to wear hijab when they are young.” She added.
“The material of an hijab should be thick and should not be clinging to the body. It should not show your body curves.
As to whether it is permissible for a woman to stay without an hijab while at home, she has this to say.

“Ofcourse while at home, it is just you and your husband and children. You should dress well. Dress the way you want to dress to please your husband. It is not compulsory to wear hijab when you’re at home but when you are going out, you should dress properly.
Hajiya Asmau Makarfi, Wife of former Kaduna  state Governor also stressed on the need to inculcate the values of wearing the hijab on our children right from early age.
“Is what Allah commands, is not for fashion as such women should endeavour to wear real hijab not fashion flower hijab. She said.
Hajiya Rabiyat Ibrahim in her lecture touched on the qualities of an hijab. Amongst these qualities are, “that it

should be a complete covering from head to toe.

The hijab should not be slim fit, it should not reveal any part of the body. It should be wide.
Avoid wearing expensive hijab.
So also, women should not wear much perfume, if they should, it has to be mild so as not to attract attention”. She stated.
Reacting to those women who wear hijab and commit all manners of atrocities, she has this to say.
“Whatever they are doing will not prevent us from wearing hijab. Their own intention s are different. Wearing of hijab is an act of lbadah. Her intention is very key. So somebody who wears hijab to go and commit attrocities, we leave them for Allah. Is Allah who will expose them and this will not prevent other women and girls from wearing hijab” She said.
Speaking, a one time House of  Rep. member, Hon. Saudatu Sani in a brief interview with journalists encouraged our mothers to follow the path of Allah.
Children should be guided in order that they grow up feeling comfortable in hijab.
Also speaking from the point of view of the youth, Barrister Bushra Muhammed Suleiman emphasized the need for parents to inculcate in their children the wearing of hijab at a very early stage. By so doing, it becomes part of them thus building in them that confidence of being a true Muslimat.
“I am calling on the youth to be proud of the hijab. Wearing of the hijab is a command directly from Allah. There are lots of misunderstanding about the hijab. We should take the wearing of hijab as a crown, not a crime.
There are 3 verses of the Quran where Allah directed the importance of wearing the hijab to us, we Muslim women. Two of the verses directed to the wives of the Holy Prophet (SAW) She stated.
Stressing further she said, the believe by some people that women wearing hijab find it difficult to get married is untrue.
“It can’t be. It is not true that the hijab  prevents women from getting married or getting a job. We Muslims should respect the hijab. If we disrespect the hijab is like disrespecting the command of Allah.
The men should understand that the hijab is commandment from Allah not our choice. Is not as if our parents are forcing us to put on the hijab. We are following the command of Allah.
The male should not say because she is putting on hijab, l will not marry her. You should respect her. The hijab is not a bondage nor is it a crime.
According to FOWAN  Public Relation Officer,  FOMWAN Kaduna Branch, hajiya Fatima Aiiyu, wearing of hijab has become parts and parcels of her.
I started wearing hijab at a tender age. I don’t feel complete without an hijab. Hajiya Fatima expressed worries over accusations that some women in hijab commit some attrocities. This she finds disgusting.
Worrisome she said is the fact that
non Muslims are seen wearing the hijab  to perpetrate dubious acts which inturn are blamed on Muslims.
A lot of sensitization will need to be done to restore the dignity of hijab by Muslim organizations. She added.
