2023 Presidential Race: Anyim, Hayatudeen Storm PDP Kaduna Secretariat
Zainab Tanimu
Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria
Few days after the former Senate President, Bukola Abubakar Saraki visited People’s Democratic party’s secretariat Kaduna to formerly declare his intention to seek for the presidential ticket, two other Party’s presidential aspirants stormed the secretariat to seek delegates and party members support in the forthcoming presidential race.
A one time Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim and another PDP aspirant Muhammed Hayatudeen both were at the secretariat to woo delegates support.
According to the former senate leader, Nigeria he said can be great again. The challenge is getting the right person who has all it takes to fix it.
“The challenge before us now is to get a leader who knows the problems and how to solve fix the problems.”
He called on Nigerians not to loose hope in-spite of the insecurity and other problems the nation is currently facing.
What the country needs at this trying period he said is, “a man who will reunite us to be our brother’s keeper – that is the leadership I am offering. He sounded.
“We have no other country.
Today in Nigeria, many people will talk about insecurity, many people will talk and single out the economy but I can tell you that the problems are many and one leading to the other.
Anyim promised to reposition the country socially and economically and security wise if elected come 2023 elections because according to him, the terrain is not new to him.
“In the last 33 years of my life, I have been around government by the grace of God. I have served as a senator, and I have served as President of the Senate. I became Senate President at the time that the senate was in crisis and when I came, I reunited everybody and the crisis was resolved.”  In the same vain, he promised to unite Nigeria.
Based on the theme of his campaign,
‘greater Nigeria’,  “we would work together to make Nigeria great.” He said.
Addressing the delegates, another strong presidential aspirant, Muhammed Hayatudeen whose dream he said is taking Nigeria out of its woes in his lamentation said,
“We are afflicted with a constant stream of crisis. Therefore it is now time for the country to embrace a new kind of leadership.
A Leadership that has the competent, skills, experience and distinction. The one that understands the underline forces that has shaped this country, one who understands its history.”
While fielding questions from journalists shortly after his address, Hayatudeen
in an answer to how hopeful he is despite the numbers of aspirants for the presidential seat, he has this to say.
“This is an open democratic space. Under the tenets of  democracy any candidate who feels he can actually make a major contribution to this party in any elective office across the three tiers of government has the freedom of the independent to actually contest election. l  bring to the party, and l bring to these candidates a very strong  background rooted in skills, experience,
knowledge of Worldwide affairs and indepth grounding on major economic issues which today actually depend on Nigeria’s progress.
“Many of the social and security issues that you see are direct result of the people suffering from  hunger and degradation. I believe l have the set of character, knowledge, the  experience to be able to excel as president to effectively place Nigeria on the map within the globe.
Reacting to the issue of consensus, he said it was taken up voluntary by the candidates “and through our own agreement, we decided to abandon it. So each one of us now is doing independent campaign but it is still possible by the time we go for the convention, since it is only one person that will be chosen as presidential flag bearer, it is still possible for people to enter into alliances that will actually shrink the list because the key thing here is not the interest of any individual but that of overall interest of the party.”
Present at the party Secretariat was former Kaduna state governor, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi who described both candidates as eligible material but as it is, God chooses whoever He pleases.
The PDP Kaduna state party Chairman, Hon. Felix Hyat commended them for their visit while assuring party and candidates support in their pursuit.
The party he said is up and doing in seeing that it delivers Kaduna state as well as victorious come 2023 general elections.
