Yuletide: Hon. Hawwah Puts Smiles on Maraban Kajuru IDPs

Zainab Tanimu

Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria

Members of Maraban Kajuru Internally displaced persons (IDP) have joined others in celebrating Christmas.

The distribution of rice, clothing and other items to this group is to give them sense of belonging as they celebrate with others the festive occasion.

The African Democratic Congress,  (ADC) flag bearer for House of Rep., Hon.  Hawwah Gambo disclosed this during the distribution exercise at Maraban Kajuru.

Hawwah while sympathizing with the IDPs on the situation they found themselves urged them to have faith and trust in God.  All is not lost she said because God is ever capable of changing situations to better.

In an interactive session that took place, they opened up on bordering issues while some of them narrated their ordeals

Blessing Samaila: We are in a state of worries. I was staying with my uncle. Himself and his wife got shot living behind their little children . Some are staying with me, no school.
Maria Tanimu:   In my own case, my room was set on fire. We managed to escape and here we are today as refugees. We are here on the mercy of people who come and donate for  us.

Mary Christopher:  We are suffering. Every time we are attacked. We were just sitting in front of our house when we were attacked by two men. They said lf l try to escape, they will shoot me. So l followed and they took us into the bush. We were given dirty water to drink. All l did was to pray to God to safe my life. We were taken to one bush, that was around 8pm. We got to a place and was asked to seat on the ground. While seated, they looked for sticks and heat us on the head. They said we were the people killing the fulanis.  The unfortunate part of it is that you are not allowed to speak or you get shot. We stayed for 4 months in the bush, drinking all sorts of water. We received regular beatings.  ln the night , they will fetch water filled in jericans and pour it on us till we are drained. It was a terrible experience. We suffered, only God that came to our rescue and got us freed.
