Exit Us From Compulsory Contributory Pension Scheme – Police Retirees Cry Out

… members go spiritual
Zainab Tanimu
Kaduna, Northwest, Nigeria
The Association of Retired Police Officers, Kaduna State chapter, today cried out to the federal government particularly the National assembly members who are the custodians of lawmaking to remove them from the Compulsory Contributory Pension Scheme which they said is detrimental to their corporate existence.
The scheme according to the Chairman Rtd. CSP Manir Lawal, who is the spokesperson of the group has done more harm than good.
Over 500 retirees he said have from the year 2007 to date died due to the untold sufferings the scheme has brought them.
The body is demanding that the needful be done by the body concerned ( federal government, NASS) to address their plight or face necessary action.
“Today we have submitted our case to God –
We are reporting our case before the Almighty Allah so that He can intervene in our case.
“We are appealing to members of the national assembly to come to our aids by removing us from the Compulsory Contributory Pension Scheme.
“Again, we want the world to know that as from today, we are giving an autimatum that after two weeks, from 15th May,  if we are not removed from compulsory Pension Scheme we are going to pack our families to Abuja so that we will start living there because burial ceremony is very difficult now. If a retiree under Contributory Pension scheme dies, it becomes difficult to bury him because he has left no money. He has left nothing.
The group also complained bitterling of injustice being meted on them with the introduction of the lumpsum system which it said drains 75 percent of their contributions.
“They introduced a system called lumpsum, no matter the amount of money you gather, they will give you only 25%, they will hold the 75%. They are using it, trading with it. The interest, they use to give us chicken change every month. Twenty thousand, 30 thousand, 40thousand every month.
They are using the interest and the owner of the money is given chicken change every month. Chicken change of N20,000, N30,000, N40,000.
Even at that, some complained that they do not even receive any.
Also pathetic is that of a retiree who said he is the oldest DSP in the Nigeria Police force in Nigeria and he is receiving a little above N32,000..
Also vibrating is retired DSP Esther Macus who said with all her years of service, she receives the chicken change of N38,000.
It is appalling, she stated.
“Some of us have grant children, how do you want us to cope with life?   Do you know that some of us in the course of serving the nation we got injured. People who have served you for 35yrs and above, where is your compassion as a government? After such years of service, you’re giving somebody, N30, 000. N20,000. Why? why? I ask our leaders why?
To drive their message home as well as seek God’s intervention, the Christians and Muslim Retirees had joint prayer session.
