Niger crisis: Delegation of ECOWAS in Niamey for fresh negotiations with the military junta
A delegation led by Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar rtd in an effort to avoid military confrontations between the military government in Niger Republic and the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS arrived Niamey on Saturday for a fresh round of negotiations with the military junta in the country.
The delegation includes the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III.
They were received by the new Prime Minister, Ali Lamine Zeine.
They  also met with ousted Nigerien President, Mohamed Bazoum.
Radio France International (RFI) radio station said the ECOWAS delegation visited Bazoum and his family who have been in detention since July 26.
The radio station said the meeting with Bazoum was attended, among others, by former Nigerian head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, who led the ECOWAS delegation.
BBC Hausa reported that the meeting with representative of the troubled West African Country reportedly lasted about 90 minutes.
