While appreciating members of the council for their understanding and support accorded him for the successful completion of the tenure inherited from the former Council Chairman, Garba Muhammed, he said it was an opportunity for him to have an insight on problems bedeviling the council.

He has described his coming back as a period for strategizing and working on the grey arrears with a view to taking NUJ Kaduna Council to a greater height.

“Today’s event as far as l am concerned is not for celebration. It is a gathering of professionals of Nigeria Union of Journalists to rethink on how to reposition the council.”

The Council, the chairman explained is faced with lots of problems due to financial constrain. The state government had not been fort-coming. He lamented.

However, the present financial status of the council notwithstanding, he had promised to see that all hands are on desk in order to find ways to salvaging the situation. Welfare of members Adamu said remains the council’s priority.

“Our priority is welfare, welfare and welfare. We would collaborate with development partners to train our members of which by January, we hope to commence. He assured.

With the general election at the corner, he stressed on the need for members to always adhere to the ethics of the profession while he urged them to remain united fora better tomorrow.

“United we stand. Divided we fall. I am optimistic that the newly elected members would try all within their reach to open up windows of opportunities for their members to excel.” He ended.

The NUJ Zonal Vice President, Comrade Yusuf Idris commending the efforts of the dissolved executives which he acknowledged worked under a tight financial condition had urged them not to rest on their owls for only then can they actualize the dream they have for the council. Speaking, the Zonal Secretary, Nigeria Union of Journalists, North-West Zone A, Abdullahi Izma Yamadi had in his speech called on every member of the council to embrace the spirit of oneness by extending the hand of fellowship to the newly elected executives “so that they can improve and consolidate on what is on ground”. He emphasized.

For any member to be elected, it is believed that such person has the ability to perform; adding that, Kaduna council is very important to north-west zone as such should remain an exemplary force.

While commending the peaceful manner with which the election was conducted, he had assured the council of his office’s readiness to carry the council along.

“Let me assure you that the Zonal office would not let you down”. He said.

Abdullahi however had expressed worries over the unhealthy relationship between the Council and State Government. Government he said cannot operate in isolation of the media.

It needs the media to disseminate its activities to the public and that whereby that robust relationship does not exist, the public would be deprived of vital information.

“Anywhere journalists and government are at log-ahead, the masses would suffer. Vital information would not reach the public. There is need to collaborate because both need each other.” He maintained.
