The honorable Commissioner of Human Services And Social Development, Kaduna State, Hajiya Rabi Salisu was part of the Fifth Chukker Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign held at Mararaban Jos, Kaduna.

The Commissioner in her goodwill message commended participants and urged mothers to seize the opportunity for free screening available at the venue.

Emphasizing, cancer she said is not witchcraft or evil, but a treatable disease if detected early. Hajia  Rabi debunked the harmful myths surrounding breast cancer, known locally as “Sankaran Mama ko na Mahayfa.”

Sharing a poignant example, the Commissioner recalled a patient who tragically succumbed to breast cancer last year after refusing treatment, despite Fifth Chukker’s offer of support.

This underscored the urgency of awareness and timely healthcare. Warning against harmful practices, she advised women to prioritize their well-being and avoid using “kayan Mata,” which can lead to cervical cancer.

The Commissioner praised Fifth Chukker, Pink Hope, and partners for their dedication to this vital cause. To further advance the fight against cancer, she advocated for expanding awareness campaigns into rural communities, fostering stronger collaborations and partnerships for a healthier future.
