Kaduna State today hosted the Commissioners of Women Affairs from the Northwest to a roundtable to discuss the involvement of women in peace and security efforts in the region.
The meeting which took place at City Den, Kaduna, is supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with the theme “Harnessing Women’s Voices for Lasting Peace”.
Deputy Governor Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe welcomed the commissioners to Kaduna and and also participated in the deliberations to fashion out ways and initiatives by the respective State Ministries of Women Affairs to increase women inclusion and participation in decision making.

Earlier yesterday, a follow up meeting with UN Women and the MHSSD on the level of preparedness towards the launching of the Women Peace and Security Action Plan slated for 22nd November, 2024 was held.

Honorable Commissioner Hajia Rabi Salisu had received the UN Women Deputy Country Representative, Ms Nesrea Elkelle and her Team from Abuja.
In her words, “We’ve worked tirelessly to fast-track the policy launch to become a reality at the Kaduna State  Women Economic Empowerment Summit, being  the first state to domesticate and ensure  implementation of the new policy nationwide”.
She noted the State Government’s unwavering commitments and dedication to meet up with the drawn up calendar to achieve the expected outcome of hosting a successful launch on the said date.  She reiterated Kaduna State Government’s aim to demonstrate  responsibility and ownership of this document  in addition to inclusion in the 2025 Budget hopefully.
She emphasized the importance of continuity in Governance process, noting that UN Women’s collaboration in augmenting the existing Government effort in terms of financial and technical support is quite laudable. Commissioner Salisu highlighted the significance of domesticating policies as a  platform for citizen engagement while ensuring  their participation in Governance as well as citizens  ownership.
She stressed the need to accelerate capacity building on the implementation of the three policy document which includes Women, Peace and Security State Action Plan, Youth Peace and Security and kaduna state women economic empowerment policy in order to leverage on the available opportunities and enabling environment through out her tenure and build on what was achieved this in 2024.
Commissioner Salisu concluded, on a very resounding Note of encouragement that in her words” We’re launching three policies – Women Peace, and Security, Youth Peace and Security, and the Wee  Policy as a showcase of practical readiness for their implementation.
She recognized the Security  challenges which has a ravaging effect on as daily concern,  and has reached an alarming rate considering how it is impacting on women and girls particularly in the northwest senatorial zone of the country. She was pathetic about how Women bear the brunt of insecurity, losing loved ones and struggling financially and used as  soft targets in exchange for monetary, sexual abuse and exploitation.
Thus noted it’s imperative to reprioritize our goals  towards empowering women and youth in  promoting peace Building process, participation and strengthen security  network through these policies.
