Kaduna NAWOJ: Chairperson resigns, deputy takes over

The Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists Kaduna Chapter, Comrade Fatima Aliyu has resigned.

The resignation took place at the emergency Congress held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat Kaduna, during the week.

The resignation which came six months to the end of her second tenure according to her was on personal ground.

In her speech, she appreciated every member for their love and support during her leadership and urged that same cooperation and support be extended to her deputy.

Explaining further, NAWOJ Zonal Secretary Zone A, Comrade Daharatu Ahmed Aliyu confirmed that all formalities were duly observed and that the National Chairperson NAWOJ Comrade Aisha Ibrahim had accepted the resignation and wished her well. She called for her continuous support towards the growth of the chapter.

 

The Zonal Secretary also commended her for the dedication and commitments shown in moving the chapter forward.

Comrade Safura Maidoki the new Chairperson NAWOJ she said will be on acting capacity and that 3months into her leadership, a credential committee will be put in place to work towards election proper to usher in new executives.

The constitution also allows her to contest. She added.

“We are here today to tell you that the national office under the leadership of Comrade Aisha Ibrahim has officially accepted the resignation of Comrade Fatima Aliyu as the chairperson of NAWOJ Kaduna state.
She prayed on behalf of all members that wherever she is going to, she is going to succeed and we are praying along with her.
According to the constitution, a deputy automatically steps into position when a leader is leaving, so Comrade Safura is agreed to be the most qualified.
“This leadership is elapsing in the next 6months. In the next 3 months, an electoral committee will be constituted that will champion the election of our next leaders. Anybody that is qualified to contest and vie for any position is welcome.”

Speaking, Comrade Safura Jibril Maidoki in her acceptance speech thanked the leadership of NAWOJ and entire members for finding her worthy for the position.

She thanked and wished her predecessor the best in her new undertaking while promising to put in her best in taking NAWOJ to the next level.

She appealed for maximum cooperation from members in the cause of her leadership as she cannot do it alone.

“I urged you members of the NAWOJ chapter to please join hands with me in carrying the activities of NAWOJ to greater heights.”

The Council Secretary, Comrade Gambo Santos who represented the Council Chairman, AbdulGafar Alabelewe commended the women for a peaceful transition.

He encouraged that they continue to love and project that spirit of oneness existing amongst them saying,  the council is there to give its support.

“I want to appreciate the opportunity given to the council to partake in this event.
To the out gone NAWOJ Chairperson, and the incoming one, l wish to extend the blessings of our able Council Chairman, Comrade AbdulGafar Alabelewe.

Commending the peaceful atmosphere that prevailed, “This is a historic development, not only to NAWOJ but the council itself. The council secretary also confirmed that whenever  a leader is stepping out, the deputy automatically steps in. He on behalf of the council wished them well while urging that they remain peaceful and understanding in carrying out their affairs.
“We are watching you to see how you are going to conduct yourselves. This election is going to be a test to your level of love, to your level of togetherness. We are hoping to see that level of sincerity in you. We wish you well.”

The highlight of the event was the presentation on behalf of NAWOJ members of a congratulatory letter by NAWOJ Vice Chairperson Zone A, Comrade Rabi Mohammad Gwadabawa ably represented by the Zonal Secretary to the Council Chairman for their success in the just concluded elections. She wished them a successful tenure.
