FOMWAN @ 40, seeks NUJ’s collaboration, others

The Federation of Muslim Women’s Association of Nigeria, FOMWAN Kaduna Chapter today were at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Kaduna secretariat on a courtesy visit.

The team comprising the leadership of the association, Amirah Nafisat lsa, the Local Organizing Committee Chairperson, Amirah Farida Sada and members of the publicity committee were there to solicit support on their forthcoming conference/anniversary schedule for August.

Speaking, the Amirah appreciated the council executives for their warm reception as she seek for their assistance by way of publicity, giving adequate coverage to make the event successful.

FOMWAN she explained is a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting the welfare and well being of Muslim women in Nigeria.

The association which is  40 years in existence has grown to being a leading voice in advocating for women’s rights, education, health care and empowerment. Adding that the conference is by the corner and the reason for the visit.

“Our upcoming national conference and the 40th anniversary will take place from 19th – 24th of August, 2025 in Kaduna.

“The event is aimed to reflect on our journey and our achievements over the last four decades. We will discuss pressing issues affecting Muslim women and other communities and will chart a way forward for our continuous growth and impacts.

“We value the crucial role of the media in shaping the public discourse and promoting our mission. We are looking forward to collaborating with the Nigeria Union of Journalists Kaduna state to ensure the success of our event.”

The Secretary FOMWAN/Chairperson Publicity Committee, Hajiya Hadiza Umar added that the publicity committee deemed it fit to schedule the visit realising the fact that no meaningful event succeeds without the media. She thanked the council for giving them the opportunity to share their problems while looking forward to a healthy collaboration.

Responding, the NUJ Council Chairman, Comrade Abdulgafar Alabelewe congratulated FOMWAN Kaduna for a job well done.

He commended them for constituting publicity committee of professionals which he said will help to project the activities of the association.

On the part of the council, he promised giving adequate publicity for the conference. Holding the conference in Kaduna he said will not only help to boost the economy but the image of the state.

“We are happy that the conference is taking place in Kaduna, the center of learning and also a capital of northern Nigeria.

“The conference will in a way pass a message that Kaduna is not what people think from the outside particularly people from the southern parts of the country.

It will help to send the message that Kaduna is peaceful.

“You have taken the right step by putting the right peg in the right hole with you having professionals in your committee.

“We are going to support this course by  giving you the necessary publicity that you will be requiring for the conference.

Still appreciating the association,

“What you do is beyond the propagation of lslam but also ensuring the welfare of mothers by extension the proper upbringing of our children in the society.

“The council values organisations like you not only because you’re a religious organisation but because you are mothers who are keeping the peace and stability in our society.

I wish you in advance a very successful national conference.”

Similar visits were also paid to other media organisations. While at the Freedom radio, they were received by Engr. Bala who stood in for the General Manager Hajiya Maryam Dalhatu.
