Nigeria to Adopt Single Budget from 2026 as Tinubu Tables ₦58.4 Trillion Spending Plan

In a decisive move to end fiscal fragmentation, President Bola Tinubu has announced that Nigeria will transition to a single, unified budget from April 2026. This commitment came as he presented a proposed ₦58.4 trillion budget for that year, anchored on heavy capital spending and a massive ₦5.41 trillion allocation to security.

The budget’s central reform is the elimination of rollovers, promising a cleaner fiscal cycle starting April 2026 after clearing old liabilities.

Emphasis is on capital projects (₦26.8tn) and tackling security challenges (₦5.41tn), with significant funds for infrastructure and education.

The plan acknowledges past hardships but asserts the economy is now on a path to “sustainable growth,” backed by new tax acts for revenue.

The National Assembly leadership welcomed the fiscal discipline and pledged urgent, patriotic scrutiny of the proposal.
