Maraban Jos Killing: FOMWAN Kaduna Condemns Killing of Malama Ummulkair, Demands Swift Justice

Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria
The Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Kaduna State Chapter, has strongly condemned the gruesome killing of Malama Ummulkair, an Islamiyya teacher, in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Malama Ummulkair was reportedly killed on Sunday, June 21, 2026. Her death has sparked widespread grief within the Muslim community and beyond.
In a statement signed by the Amirah of FOMWAN Kaduna State Chapter, Hajiya Nafisat Musa Isah, the association described the late teacher as a dedicated educator who devoted her life to teaching the Holy Qur’an and instilling Islamic values, discipline, moral uprightness, and the fear of Allah in children.
The association said her killing was not only a painful loss to her family and the Muslim Ummah but also “a direct assault on education, womanhood, and the sanctity of human life.”
FOMWAN condemned what it described as a “heinous and senseless act” and urged the relevant authorities to ensure justice is served.
“FOMWAN Kaduna State Chapter strongly condemns this heinous and senseless act and calls for swift action to ensure justice is served,” the statement read.
The association called on the Kaduna State Government and security agencies to carry out a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into the incident, identify those responsible, and prosecute them without delay.
FOMWAN also appealed to the state government, relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), humanitarian organisations, and well-meaning Nigerians to provide immediate welfare and educational support for the deceased’s children, who have been left vulnerable by the tragic incident.
It further urged community and religious leaders, as well as residents, to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and continue promoting peace, justice, and the protection of women, children, and educators across their communities.
The association extended its heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Malama Ummulkair, her students, the people of Maraban Jos, and the entire Muslim Ummah.
“We pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgives her shortcomings, grants her Al-Jannatul Firdaus, comforts her loved ones, and gives them the strength and patience to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement added.
FOMWAN reaffirmed its commitment to promoting justice, safeguarding the rights and dignity of women and children, and advocating for peaceful and secure communities throughout Kaduna State.
